Applying selling
Techniques
1 What is the message The Coca-Cola Company has adopted
in its advertisements? To live on the Coke side of life means to
have a good life and the teenagers and young adults have
adopted Coke into their everyday lives.
2 How has Coca-Cola’s target market changed over time?
When it started it was aimed to the older age groups as a
reflection to USA’s promotional strategy but now it is aimed to
teenagers and young adults. This has been a success.
3 The successful formula for ‘Coke’ is not the ingredients of the
drink but its superior selling techniques.’ Do you agree or
disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer.
I agree because they have many different strategies as CocaCola is in many fast food outlets like McDonalds and that is a
very big company and very popular and many people have
adopted coke and McDonalds into their everyday life.
5 What are the advantages to The Coca-Cola Company in
diversifying and selling water and fruit juice products?
As they will get more profit to themselves and they can please
the other markets that don’t like Coca-Cola and this could also
persuade them into drinking Coca-Cola as it is made by them.
6 Select three selling techniques used by The Coca-Cola
Company and explain how each one helps the company
increase its sales.
Product Development as this as helped get more groups to buy
Coca-Cola products as they don’t like the original Coca-Cola.
Product Promotion as they have used different ways to get the
consumers attention without them knowing like in sponsorship
on shirts in sports and this makes consumers buy the products
as they want to be like the athletes.
Product Differentiation as they have used different types of
bottles or colours for all the different types of drinks they
produce which makes the consumer aware of what is contained
and they straight away go and buy that product.
7 Select a product or service with which you are familiar.
Research and prepare a report on the selling techniques used
by the business.
I Chose Pepsi as it is very similar to the Coca-Cola Company. It
is a rival to the company as it is a worldwide company. It uses
the same techniques the Coca-Cola and they also have many
different products like Pepsi Max and Pepsi Blue. As
Advertisement goes at the moment, Pepsi has a promotional
strategy with Top gear and you can either get $50 000 or to get
a trip for 3 to England. They are 2 very similar companies who
really dislike each other.
8 A business can have a product’s name or symbol registered
as its trademark. The ‘Dynamic Ribbon’ device and the Contour
Bottle are trademarks of The Coca-Cola Company.
(a)
What is meant by the term ‘trademark’?
The term trademark means the symbol of that company or
someone.
(b) What icon is used to show that the name or symbol is a
registered trademark?
The R in a circle is the symbol of a registered trademark.
(b)
Why would a business want to protect its trademark?
If the company makes something good another company
wants to copy the brand they can’t because it is protected
and that would really be identity theft.
