How old do I have to be?
The minimum age requirement ranges between 17 and 25 years old. You must be a CEGEP or undergraduate University student.
How much do I need to know about Judaism?
Interns are expected to have a basic understanding of Jewish terms, traditions and history.
This knowledge can come from either formal (i.e. day school, courses) or informal (camp,
Israel trips) experiences. An eagerness to learn and explore is greatly valued.
The HLI interns model a variety of Jewish values, pursuing a path of personal and professional growth and enriching the lives of other students. They have the opportunity to cultivate diverse and unique Jewish experiences in the context of their internship.
What other skills/experiences are important to my application?
We are looking for candidates who care deeply about the growth of building community for Jewish young adults, who are passionate about a particular niche activity, and who thrive in a social environment. We look for candidates who have experience in leading projects, work well with others, and demonstrate involvement in the Jewish or general community.
Intern candidates are expected to be able to develop and facilitate events and programs throughout the year that will target a specific niche group of students. Creativity, maturity, flexibility, passion, and enthusiasm as well as organizational skills are all important aspects of being an intern.
Candidates must embody an entrepreneurial spirit, acting boldly in the face of convention and resource limitations to deliver real social value. They must be committed to creativity, innovation and high-performance. Candidates must exhibit influence in mainstream university life through past or current leadership experience in high-visibility activities.
They should maintain a broad social network and deep relationships to facilitate their own successes.
If I am accepted as an intern, what is the time commitment over the year?
