Holistic simulation &
optimisation of energy
systems in Smart Cities
CITYOPT
1
Project description
•
Develop implementation and recommendation to carry conception,
renovation and management of energy systems in neighborhood and cities
•
The approach focuses on the user so it can ensure application and
implementation respond to user different needs (citizens, decision maker,
building manager...)
•
3 pilot sites will allow to test the CITYOPT solutions during the different
phases of a neighborhoud lifecycle
Finland : during conception phase (new neighborhood to build)
• Austria : during renovation phase (existing neighborhood to renovate)
• France : during operation management phase (existing neighborood pre-equipped)
•

From NICE GRID to CITYOPT
Within GRID4EU program, EDF has
previously worked for NICE GRID, a 30M€
project equipping :
-Residential
customers ERDF linky smart
meters;
- Tertiary
buildings with netSeenergy meters;
Installing local photovoltaic energy
production units and storage (thermal and
battery) units all before the end of 2013.
-
 Project was held in the city of
CARROS, within Métropole NCA
territory

10
Objectives for Nice Côte d’Azur
Focus on optimization scenarios related to demand response services, more
especially load shedding, to reinforce the continuity of service in a fragile
electricity supply network.
Users will play a key role by participating in the specifications (participatory
design) of the technological solution (especially of user interfaces for impact
visualisation), and behaviors will be carefully assessed during the test phase.

Helsinki Case Study
CITYOPT
13
Helsinki objectives
Evaluate different electricity storage solutions/business models in the
Kalasatama area of Helsinki.
Different technologies, sizing and placement of electric storage solutions will
be analyzed and the optimal storage solution will be examined by using the
CITYOPT applications.
The use of the applications in a district planning phase will be tested and
analysed in this demonstration case.

Vienna Case Study
CITYOPT
15
Vienna objectives
AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology),RTA (Rail Tec Arsenal) and WWFF (Vienna Business Agency),
will investigate the optimal design and possible implementation of a
concept to integrate the buildings, their existing energy supply and storage
systems and use the waste heat to cover the office buildings demand for
heating and cooling
Reduce RTA expenses for cooling
It will include the requirements on the thermal storage to match the time
dependence of waste heat production with that of heat demand.

with electrical heating
and smart meter)
– 1st semester 2015 :
beginning of the
experimentation
