MILITARY HISTORY – Permission Film Form

Dear Parents,
Throughout the year, students taking the Military History elective will view several film clips related to war.
These will include documentaries and movies. Please be aware, taking into account the topic we will be
studying, that these clips may contain violent content, graphic language and some have an “R” rating. The
films will be used to supplement the teaching of the subject matter and not to become the central focus of the
class.
These film clips have been chosen for their educational value and in order to minimize the amount of graphic
content shown. Some examples include scenes from the films Alexander, Gladiator, Jarhead, HBO series
Rome, Band of Brothers and The Pacific, Saving Private Ryan, National Geographic and History Channel clips. A
couple of specific examples include viewing the first several minutes of HBOs Rome to view how a Roman
legion formed and rotated fighting on the front line; showing Alexander the Great die without naming a
successor causing his empire to be divided and led to decline of western control in SW Asia; Saving Private
Ryan first 10 minutes to demonstrate the harsh fighting on D-Day; the first day of liberation of Nazi Europe;
Restrepo, documentary film following a Platoon in Afghanistan for a year.
