I post pictures of our learning and important updates. @Mrs_Eastman Weekly Update It was a wonderful first week of Kindergarten!! News… This week was spent learning the routines of school and Room 18. We read lots of great books, like Kindergarten Rocks!, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten and The Kissing Hand. I hope you enjoyed the Kissing hand and art your child made for you! Students also learned about listening with their eyes, ears, mouth, hands, feet and brain. We built a “Listening Man” to practice thinking about listening with all of these parts! We also spent lots of time playing and getting to know each other. We shared our Stars (the first Kindergarten homework assignment) to learn all about each other. After reading the book The Crayon Box That Talked, we decorated crayons to show ways that we are unique and special. On Wednesday, Mrs. Bulgrin, our guidance counselor, came to teach us about the very first habit from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. The first habit is “Be Proactive”, which means “I am in charge of me”. Ask your child what it means to “be proactive”. We will learn about each of the 7 habits this year! Here are some questions and topics to discuss with your child to connect school and home learning, and talk about their day! Who are your new friends? What are your “Morning Jobs”? What letters are in your name? What is your bus number? (This is important to practice!) How can you listen with your whole body? What does it mean to “be proactive?” Reminders Remember to send a snack in with your child. Please pack it separate from his/her lunch. Remember tennis shoes on Mondays for P.E. Return Library books on Wednesdays Our school offers breakfast in the mornings. If you would like your child to buy/eat breakfast, please remind him/her to get breakfast BEFORE coming down to the classroom. Also, it may be helpful to put a note in the green folder so I can make sure s/he doesn’t forget! This won’t be necessary after we learn this new routine. Fridays in our classroom will be “Football Friday!” At the end of the day, we will cheer for our favorite football teams with our first grade friends. Feel free to send your child to school dressed in Blue Devil spirit, or any other favorite team! (O-H!) Remember to send in important paperwork This week, I will send home this newsletter both electronically and in hard copy. It will also be posted on my website. Next week I will begin sending the newsletter ONLY electronically. If you would like me to send home a hard copy each week let me know. Also contact me if you do not receive the newsletter in your email this week, or would like it sent to a different address. Thanks!
