ACCOUNTING I Mrs. Laura Rossiello Classroom telephone: 610-579-7708 Rossiel@garnetvalley.org Major Areas of Study: Accounting as a career; business ethics, current business issues, accounting for a service business organized as a proprietorship, accounting for merchandising business organized as a corporation and automated accounting cycle for both the service and merchandising businesses. Basic Requirements: Be prepared and on time! Students are to bring textbook, workbook, notebook (3 ring binder), pen/pencil, calculator and a good hard-working attitude to class every day before the bell rings. Points will be deducted for coming to class unprepared! BOOKBAGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY LABS DUE TO SAFETY. Read each chapter. Define each new accounting terms and write the page number from the text where the term is located. Answer all Audit Your Understanding questions, and write the page number from the text where the answer was found. Answers must rephrase the question and be in complete sentence form in order to receive credit. Assignments must be complete and turned in on time to any receive credit. Maintain an organized accounting notebook/binder containing class notes, handouts, terms, questions, completed problems, etc. The accounting notebook will be collected at the end of each quarter and count as a major test grade. Respect equipment, material and individuals at all time. Take ownership of your computer, textbook and work area. Read the Garnet Valley Network Policy and abide by it. Violators of the network policy will not be permitted to use a computer, receive a zero for each day and therefore may fail the course. Be on time and participate in class. Manage time wisely; work on accounting during the entire class period. Come in during the enhancement period as needed. Goals and Objectives: Understand entry-level positions, educational requirements, and career opportunities in accounting. Make ethical business decisions. Develop decision-making and critical thinking skills. Understand that success in the accounting profession depends on the ability to Acct1syl communicate, make ethical decisions, and work well with others. Become aware of current business trends and issues. Know accounting terminology and concepts related to an accounting system for a service business organized as a proprietorship and for a merchandising business organized as a corporation. Build a foundation in accounting principles and terminology to be used in further study of accounting, marketing, or other phases of business. Demonstrate manual and automated accounting procedures used for a small business organized as a proprietorship and corporations Materials Used: Century 21 Accounting, General Journal, Tenth Edition, South-Western Publishing Company, 2014. Accompanying workbook that provides the forms necessary to complete problems from the text. Windows and Microsoft Office Online Automated Accounting for the Microcomputer, South-Western Publishing Company, 2015. Quickbooks Premier Accountant Edition 2015 Grading: Assignments will be given a point value based on their length and difficulty. Grades will be calculate by 50% tests/quizzes and 50% classwork/homework. Cheating will absolutely not be tolerated. Any cheating on an assignment/test will result in a zero for that assignment/test and a parent/guardian will be informed of the cheating incident. All assignments are posted daily to the teacher website and grades are updated frequently. Attendance: Attendance is extremely important as each chapter builds upon previous chapters. Students absent from class are responsible for all work missed. It is the student’s responsibility to see the teacher about missed work. This includes students being dismissed early for sports and other school activities including fieldtrips. School policy will be followed regarding absences. Students attending pre-approved educational trips including field trips, college visits, family vacations, etc. are completely responsible to make-up or make provisions for assignments with the teacher PRIOR to leaving on such trips. No test, quiz or assignment may be made up if the absence is found to be illegal or if the student does not follow the proper school policy. Acct1syl
