Students will become acquainted with legal principles common to business and personal activities. Curriculum topics include ethics & law, sources of the law, structure of the courts, classification of procedural law/substantive law, evaluating contracts, maximizing purchasing power through credit, purchasing appropriate insurance, employment laws, liability, torts, bankruptcy, wills, marriage/divorce, renting/owning real estate and the Constitution. Course Objectives: Case law, debate and internet-based research are heavily employed throughout this course. Students will present ideas in writing, orally, visually and using technology and multimedia tools. Effective written and oral communication skills are emphasized. Businesses expect their employees to demonstrate good character, be on time, and be productive. As we prepare our students for the world of work, I expect my students to follow guidelines similar to those found in the workplace. Please encourage your child(ren) to be present, be on time, stay engaged, and stay focused. As we learn about business, we will simulate various business settings. These may include courtroom, board room and business meetings, just to name a few. I am excited to facilitate the learning process for our students as they learn about business, conduct themselves in a business-like manner, dress business appropriate and be about business. Attendance – Refer to, “Student Code of Conduct and Attendance Policy Handouts” 2. Technology – No cell phones and laptops during unauthorized times, PDAs, electronic games, or mp3 players. You are not allowed to use any type of electronics during school hours. 3. Restroom Policy – No students will be allowed to exit the classroom during the first 15 or last 15 minutes of class. 4. Dress Code – No clothing with explicit imagery or wording. You are not allowed to wear hats, hoods, sunglasses, scarves, or anything else that covers or partially covers the head. Plagiarism, Cheating, Academic Integrity – Students will receive a zero for the assignment. Parent(s) or legal guardian will be contacted for a Parent Teacher Conference.
