Trustpower Job Description Job Title: Telecommunications Technical Architect Reports To: Technology Strategy and Services Manager Direct Reports: Indirect Reports: Function: Position Code: Level: Location: Te Maunga Date Reviewed: 2 May 2014 Purpose Statement The role of the Trustpower Telecommunications Technical Architect (TTA) is to work with the telecommunications business owner to create a future state vision for Trustpower’s telecommunications systems and networking environments. The TTA will take ownership of the roadmap required to achieve the vision, working with both internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure successful implementation. Operating within the context of the enterprise architecture the TTA will provide principles and design constraints to support the development of aligned solutions. The TTA will be responsible for all elements of the telecommunications roadmap including applications, infrastructure and networks to support the retail strategy. Key Accountabilities The Telecommunications Technical Architect will: Telecommunications Technology Architecture 1) Document and develop in-depth knowledge of existing telecommunications technology portfolio, including network, infrastructure and applications including Operations Support Systems and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS). 2) Develop, maintain and implement technology roadmaps for all telecommunications assets that align with business strategy, capacity requirements and asset lifecycle management objectives. 3) Obtain buy-in for all telecommunications plans and associated investment, including presentation of proposal and/or business case as required. 4) Work with managed service partner to ensure non-functional considerations are incorporated into solution architecture and aligned with overall infrastructure architecture and roadmap. This includes responsibility for security, disaster recovery and performance. 5) Ensure that all solutions are aligned to the enterprise architecture. 6) Actively promote pragmatic solutions with business stakeholders. 7) Identify and evaluate new trends or technologies for inclusion on the telecommunications roadmaps. 8) Participate in Trustpower Telecommunication’s strategic planning activities. Solution Architecture and Project Participation 1) Provide templates and guidance for solution architects. 2) Review solution architecture deliverables to understand and advise on system impacts. 3) In some cases manage deliverables through to completion. This will be decided on a case by case basis and will include both the delivery and financial management of the implementation. 4) Provide thought leadership in the implementation of system performance testing. Operational Management 1) Collaborate with users to define business requirements for systems development. 2) Review new and existing IT projects, systems designs, and procurement/outsourcing plans for compliance with IT standards and architectural plans. 3) Provide guidance and mentoring to members of operations team. 4) Assist with critical operational issues. Vendor Relationship Management 1) Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key vendor stakeholders. 2) Manage technical relationships with key vendors to help build enduring relationships that deliver innovation and tangible business value. 3) Assist supplier to optimise service delivery management and operational performance. Leadership 1) Actively contribute to the direction of the Technology Strategy and Services Team. 2) Build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels in the organisation 3) Interact professionally with a diverse group – Steering Committee, General Managers, Business Unit Managers and Subject Matter Experts. 4) Contribute constructively and positively to Trustpower’s goals and objectives. 5) Establish and improve techniques, frameworks, policies and procedures that optimise architecture activities and quality of deliverables. Risk Management 1) Ensure any and all revenue risks are identified and managed. 2) Adhere to company policies including health and safety and report any risks or issues to management. 3) Take a pro-active approach to health and safety and the prevention of work place injuries. Governance 1) This role will work within and support established governance processes to ensure the development of aligned solutions. 2) Deliver accurate timely reporting. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Success Criterion Technical skills Experience Description Cisco Certified (i.e. CCIE) Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent Recognised industry qualifications (e.g. ITIL) 10+ years practical telecommunications/network architecture experience. Knowledge and experience of technology disciplines such as network, infrastructure, database or software design and development. Communication Demonstrates the ability to effectively understand business requirements and map them to application and technology capabilities. Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels in the organization. Self-Management Ability to develop clear, actionable steps to assist in the delivery of strategy – planning, organisation and analysis. Emotional Intelligence High degree of emotional intelligence and advanced interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Must operate well under pressure and be comfortable managing high priority critical incident situations. Learning Agility Must be able to learn, understand and apply new technologies and concepts that include a high level of complexity. Commercial Accumen Understands commercial business and processes and the link between technology strategy and business strategy. Able to work effectively with key suppliers.
