Title: Finance Supervisor
Reports to: Senior Finance Officer
Terms of Employment : Full-Time, 35 hours per week
Salary: $45,000 to $65,000 per annum, dependent upon qualifications
Location: Finance Department
Qualifications: Accounting designation (CA, CGA or CMA) or within 1 year of completion;
OR College Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration; OR
Certificate in Accounting/Bookkeeping, AND a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and/or financial management
Minimum of 5 years’ supervisory and management experience
Computer expertise in a General Ledger software or modular accounting software (preferably Adagio) and MS Word, Excel, Outlook
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Ability to communicate with department personnel on a professional level
Ability to manage time to meet time sensitive deadlines
Duties:
Promote the Saugeen First Nation Vision and Mission Statements
Maintain the level of professionalism expected by the Saugeen First Nation as outlined through the Personnel Policy
Uphold the ethics of the position and accreditation for their responsibilities within the Finance
Department and the management teams
Supervises finance staff
Oversee the computerized accounting system
Implement new modules necessary for financial tracking and reports
Preparation of financial statements
Prepare monthly account reconciliation for verification and regular auditing reports for the various departments
Ensure adherence to government policies, procedures and regulations
Monitor and balance financial records and business transactions such as Accounts Payable and
Accounts Receivable, including records for general, trust and commission accounts
Be responsible for regular statements to members of Accounts Receivable
Management and development of training plans for finance staff to increase the level of knowledge in the department
Source out training options of value to the Finance Department
Operate Adagio accounting system for General Ledger (GL)
Help maintain the GL and ensures asset and liability accounts are correct; and revenue and expenses are in the correct departments
Ensure subsidiary ledgers balance with GL control accounts
Ensure various payments and/or reporting to various government agencies are kept current (i.e. payroll tax deductions, HST, WSIB, Manulife Group Benefits Plan, Great-West Life Pension
Prepare reports of departmental revenue and expenses versus budgets for each of the Program
Managers as required
Has signing authority to co-sign cheques and signs the cheques processed as the first signer to ensure proper expenditures of the Band
Checks and approves Payroll runs before transferred to bank or cheques made
Prepares the deposits for all bank accounts and ensures all funds are accounted for
Create and prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports as required
Respond to department requirements for reporting purposes to various agencies
Plan, administer and control budgets for projects, contracts, equipment and supplies
Assist staff with administrative or technical problems
