HCL – Lloyd’s Bank
23
Client Overview
Implemented Solution
A Large Banking group required a Datamart solution for its Divestment Program
mandated by Statutory authorities. The Datamart solution was designed using
the Hyperion suite of Products – FDQM, Essbase and HFM – to produce Financial
Information from the existing Accounting systems (SAP) to satisfy the
Disinvestment program of the Banking Group.
To provide an end-to-end Datamart oriented solution using Hyperion suite
of Products in order to support the Disinvestment program of the Bank:
• To build an Integrated approach to port the data from the source system into Hyperion
using the ETL tool Hyperion FDQM
• To build an extensive allocation engine using Hyperion Essbase to allocate the expenses
from Cost centers to various branches of the Bank using specific Cost Drivers.
• To build modules in HFM for supporting requirements like Financial Consolidation, KPI
reporting, Branch selection for Disinvestment Programme and Smart View Reporting of
Key Financials
• To perform reconciliation of the financials between the Hyperion system and the source
legacy system (SAP)
• Designing new What-if scenarios in HFM to analyze Financials without the impact on the
base scenarios
Challenges / Opportunities
•
•
•
•
To develop the Datamart solution end-to-end (Requirement-Design- BuildTest) within a time frame of 4 months as mandated by Statutory authorities
Quality of the solution to be high as it is subject to a third-party Due
Diligence
Complexity in getting large volumes of data reconciled between Hyperion
and the legacy accounting system.
About 4000 plus entities for which data load, Allocation and Consolidation is
done

HCL - Royal Bank of Scotland
24
Client Overview
Implemented Solution
The Royal Bank of Scotland plc is one of the retail banking subsidiaries of the
Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc, and together with NatWest and Ulster Bank,
provides branch banking facilities throughout the British Isles. Royal Bank of
Scotland has around 700 branches, mainly in Scotland though there are branches
in many larger towns and cities throughout England and Wales.
• Innovative approach for Historical Data Migration – Historical migrated to a separate
HFM application and routed further to Essbase using Essbase Analytic Link (EAL) and
Transparent Partition Cubes in Essbase
• HFM Consolidated Financials flows into Essbase using EAL and Reporting Solution
from a Single source of Truth – Essbase Cube
• Handling of Staged and Flat Hierarchy Consolidation with complexities like:
• Automated Consolidated Journals involving Minority Interest
• Statutory & Regulatory Reporting accomplished by effective design of Custom
dimensions
Challenges / Opportunities
Results
A major component of this programme is the implementation of a new Group
Consolidation and Reporting solution, initially to deliver Statutory and
Regulatory reporting to the RBS Group and its principal reporting sub-groups.
• Alignment of RBS and NV Statutory and Regulatory reporting processes.
• Introduced new reporting functionality using Financial Reporting Studio and Smart
View.
The Group Consolidation & Reporting project forms the initial Transition State
delivery of the FiRST programme. The scope of this project covers the delivery
of a new Group Consolidation & Reporting platform to replace the existing
Hyperion Enterprise and other excel based consolidation
HCL’s Contribution
• End to End Testing of the Financial Consolidation solution in phases of System Test, Integration
Test, Data Migration Test
• Part of Implementation stream of the project along with RBS Technology Services and other
Vendors
• Defect Management, Co-ordination with Oracle team and RBS IT team in Hyperion
