Introduction
Conclusion
This summer Bernie and Angel had
the opportunity to intern at the
Hyperion Treatment Plant located at El
Segundo, CA. There, they were part of
a Project Management Office that
managed and oversaw existing
projects.
As interns, they were gradually
integrated into the Los Angeles
Wastewater Integrated Network
Systems (LAWINS) Project. A project
that was started in 2011 with the
objective of replacing the outdated
control systems that facilitates plant
operations through the city of LA.
Under the supervision of
Professional Engineers, they
accomplished tasks for the LAWINS
project that employed and expanded
their Civil Engineering skills.
Being involved in such an extensive
project displayed the critical role that
project management plays on the
efficiency of project deliverables.
In addition, the daily interaction
with professional engineers allowed us
to better understand the approach
and ethics that must be employed by
a project management team, in order
to execute a multimillion dollar project
such as this one.
