Team Black (Brandon, Jared, Riann) Web Design Deloy Cole Audience Analysis Our web site is going to be for the purpose of showcasing the Blackroom Café. We want to publish information about the venue itself, the area it’s in, what kind of atmosphere and entertainment will be available, not to mention details on coffee and prices. We believe that while a large portion of our constituents will link to the site via mass email; it is also prudent to assume that many will locate our site with one of the many popular browsers and generally open to everyone on the internet. Browsers such as Internet Explorer 7 and up, Fire Fox 2.0 and up, and Safari through the use of search engines will be used by many of our audience. Therefore, we will be testing to make sure we have a viewable website to nearly every one of our demographics. Users will often own either a PC or a Mac and need to be able to view all of the pages and receive resources from the pages regardless of Operating System or browser choice. Having a very descriptive domain name with up to date information on all events and prices will be important to all the viewers of this website. Email will be a large determiner of when viewers can be expected to visit the website. Mass emails to an ever accumulating contact list will make site visits much more predictable as the subscriber base increases in number. Another way the site will be viewed is through links from other highly visited sites. www.facebook.com is one example of how many people who would be potential visitors may find out about the website. This will be done using facebook “groups” and messaging. Other sites that have a centralized user base such as myspace, digg, ist.greenville.edu, and www.greenville.edu may prove to provide a large audience with more predictable viewing patterns. Some various examples of website our audience can come to expect when they visit our site can be seen in the overall design of the following websites: o o o o o http://www.bdcoffeehouse.com/index.html http://www.collegecoffeehousefairbanks.com/ http://www.starbucks.com/ http://www.cariboucoffee.com/ http://www.itsagrind.com/ The styles and designs of these web pages detail themes that are somewhat reminiscent of a jazz bar, an office environment, and even a new age theme to make these coffee houses seem like a change from the daily themes of our lives. On our site, the audience will be made to feel more comforted and relaxed and like they are in for a treat when they go to visit the actual establishment. Design will be very important to our audience and picking colors and layouts that match the emotional reaction the other websites produce will be a key in our launch. Our audience will come from a wide range of interests, values, and beliefs. It can be hard to try to pander to them all. Many Coffee shops with websites try to focus on a more liberal/globally minded demographic, whom have strong views on the environment, politics, religion, world cultures, the aesthetics of nature, and of course coffee. In our site, we can expect several things to be a given: that our audience may be primarily contacts of Greenville College or indirectly through it’s students and community, that they have an interest in being an audience to various forms of music that makes them feel appreciative of independent and local musician, that they will be expecting the coffeehouse to be that much better than the website itself even, a site with a relaxing theme that makes them feel like the website is an extension of the Blackroom café –a preview of what to expect if you will. Some concerns of those interested in coffee may find links such as these interesting: Coffee as a Heath Drink? http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/15/health/nutrition/15coff.html Starbucks raises prices by 5 cents... http://www.lokeshdhakar.com/2007/08/20/an-illustrated-coffee-guide/ Coffee Drinks Illustrated... http://www.lokeshdhakar.com/2007/08/20/an-illustrated-coffee-guide/ Just Drink Coffee Family Art Music It is very important that the website for the Blackroom café be able to predict the attributes of it’s audience demographics and be able to meet the needs of those demographics. Attributes such as: AGE: mostly college students and friends, some campus faculty and family, coffee lovers, and music lovers. EDUCATION: mostly students pursuing undergraduate degree & some faculty that have received a masters or a doctorate. JOB FUNCTION: mostly students (who do not usually have jobs but have probably worked somewhere before) & some faculty who work on the college campus. SKILLS: many students are familiar with their computers, however some faculty are not. So we will have to make sure the website is very easy to use and sufficient to those with minimum experience on the web. LANGUAGE: Although we do have students from other countries, it is widely expected that those students usually know/ are familiar with the English language. CULTURE: There will be a wide variety of people that will come into the café, which is why the site will attempt to be welcoming to everyone who visits -a warming and friendly spirit of togetherness should be present in the overall theme of the website. The age of our audience is particularly important because there is a direct correlation to the in our estimates to who will visit the website and who will attend functions and shows at the Blackroom Café. Ages will vary according to the appropriateness of the function, but we can expect to find primarily college aged students in attendance and in visitation to the Blackroom Café website. Take a look at the following chart to see how age will play a role in our expected demographics. Pre-Adolecent Teens 17-20 Young Adults 30's and up Our demographics will be primarily from the mass emails and contacts directly and indirectly connected to Students, Faculty, and Staff of Greenville College and those connected to the Blackroom Café. We can then come to predict that our audience may be primarily Caucasian students and some minorities and faculties. Non-Student Students Faculty/Staff Local Residents White Minority
