Somerset’s inclusive approach, resources pupils with the highest level of need in mainstream schools
without recourse to an EHC plan. Consequently we have been able to embed a solution oriented
approach with schools, based upon a well-established ‘Assess Plan Do Review’ process, which is
highly regarded by schools and others.
The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) benefits from being part of Somerset Support Services for
Education, an internal trading arm of the county council. This enables the service to have a clear
commissioning framework within which to operate. and a clear strategy for providing additionally
commissioned services to schools and other providers
The EPS delivers services in a range of settings and also in partnership with other services to provide
support to specific groups including: Children in specialist provision, Children in care and adopted
children, YOT, Autism, Critical incidents, Research and project work, restrictive physical interventions
(Team Teach). In addition many schools commission an enhanced EP service. This wide range allows
our psychologists opportunity for an exciting diversity to their work. The EPS coordinates and provides
support for schools following critical incidents and there are on-going opportunities for members of the
service to engage in research and project work. The service also coordinates and delivers training for
schools including Team Teach, ELSA and Attachment and Resilience training to name but a few. This
wide range of work provides psychologists with exciting opportunities and diversity to their role.

The Support Centres are off-site provisions for up to 10 pupils, from KS234 who are on the Autistic
Spectrum and find mainstream school challenging.
We are looking to recruit Autism Tutors to join the team already in post.
You will have experience of working with youngsters with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and will have
good interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely within a team. The role will provide challenge,
responsibility and reward to candidates who have the right set of skills and qualities.
The Centres provide flexible approaches to meeting the needs of each individual pupil. This may

This is a busy and varied post, requiring an innovative, well-organised person, who is able to work as a
good team member and who is confident to work independently using his or her own initiative.
Adult Social Care administrative staff have a vital role in supporting our Operational Teams of Social
Workers and Occupational Therapists to provide an excellent standard of services for vulnerable older
people and adults.
You will be based in our Shepton Mallet office but will occasionally need to travel and work out of other
office bases such as Glastonbury or Frome for meetings, etc.
Key tasks include:

Database use which will include checking the database for contacts that have come in for
the team, updating it (could include logging a contact, adding case notes, updating
involvements, updating status, amending paper file tab, putting on assessments, closures
etc)
•
Scanning and indexing information onto an electronic system
•
Minuting and organising meetings (shorthand desirable but not required) – these could be
team minutes or safeguarding minutes and may require some travelling
•
Dealing with phone queries - this will involve some contact with members of the public or
with professionals from other teams within SCC or with health professionals
•
Spreadsheet use (maintaining and updating spreadsheets on excel so that statistics can be
pulled off by senior managers)
•
General administrative tasks including typing, faxing, emailing, photocopying, etc
You will need:
 Appropriate administrative, computer and word processing skills
 Tact, discretion and confidentiality
 An ability to communicate clearly with people at all levels with a good standard of oral and
written English
 Proven administrative experience is desirable along with some experience of minuting meetings
