EDU 100 ASSIGNMENTS ASSIGNMENT 1: CAREER RESEARCH REPORT (10 POINTS) Assignment Description: Students are to write a career report researching any career that they might have an interest in. There is a role for everyone in our society. Jobs require different skills, values, abilities, aptitudes, and education. Research will help you decide if this career is right for you. First, use reliable sites and or personal interviews to collect information about your chosen topic. Second, with the information found in the research process, compile the necessary information into a nicely formatted report. Set up your report with the following sections: Introduction (explain why you chose this topic and what you hope to accomplish Skills needed (describe what skills are needed in this career) Personality needed (describe what type of personality would be needed in this career) Education (list the education needed for entry level openings in this career) Salary (list a salary range that one could expect if employed in this career) Work Environment (describe the work environment that one could expect working in this career) Job Outlook (describe the future openings predicted in this career) Conclusion (After completing your report, you should be able to discuss whether or not you wish to pursue a career in this field and describe the steps you are taking to do that OR explain what you learned about this field that has changed your mind about pursuing this field now that you have done this research, are you still interested or not) Requirements: Cover Page: displays your name and occupation researched. Length: 2 pages, Typed, double-spaced, size 12 fonts, using Times New Roman font. ASSIGNMENT 2: SELF-INVENTORY OF TIME (5 POINTS) Assignment Description: Students are to keep account of their time for at least one week. Each hour of the day should be logged in (time spent attending classes, commuting to and from university, studying, socializing, etc.) Focus skills: Students learn how to analyze the way they are currently using their time. By analyzing the activity log, they will be able to identify both good and poor use of time and they will be able to make use of many extra hours that have previously been wasted. Requirements: Submission: Students are required to submit the following: At least SEVEN index cards, one for each day of the week, that contains detailed information on how each hour of their day was spent. ASSIGNMENT 3: ARTICLE PRESENTATION (5 POINTS) Assignment Description: Students are required to choose one of the articles in the handout, read it, pick out the most important points and present it to the class. Focus skills: Students apply critical thinking skills by identifying the important points in the article. Students apply acquired presentation skills. Requirements: Submission: Students are to prepare and deliver a 10-minute presentation of the chosen article. They can use either PowerPoint or OHP transparencies in their presentation. Printed slides should be submitted to instructor. ASSIGNMENT 4: LECTURE NOTES (5 POINTS) Assignment Description: Students are required to take notes in a class of their choice, in any method they prefer. They should also proofread their notes after class on a separate page. Students should write a short paragraph at the end, analyzing their note-taking skills, any difficulties they had and ways to overcome these difficulties. Focus skills: Students apply note- taking skills introduced in class by producing effective notes for classes they are currently enrolled in. Students apply critical thinking skills by identifying what’s important and what’s not during lectures. Requirements: Submission: Students are required to submit the following: The original notes they took during class, the proofread version and the analysis paragraph. The name of the course, instructor and date should be written. ASSIGNMENT 5: FINAL PROJECT BOOK REVIEW/BOOK CLUB SIMULATION (30 marks- 15 for the individual book report and 15 for the presentation) Assignment Description: In groups of three or four, students select a book (from a list provided by the instructors or an instructor-approved book). They divide the chapters among the group and submit an individual book review. The same group presents the chapters of the book in a Book Club Simulation conducted in class by the end of the semester, attended and graded by a committee of external examiners.
