Just Kidding Fitness-Overview
 Just Kidding Fitness is a school-based health and
exercise program for children grades K-5
 Improves efforts to decrease childhood obesity and
poor nutrition in the greater Lansing, MI area
 Based at Sheridan Road Elementary School in
Lansing, MI
 Leads to healthy lifestyle behaviors and long and
healthy lives

 16.3% of Michigan children, ages 2-5, are overweight
 Greater than the 85th percentile and less than the 95th
percentile
 13.3% of Michigan children, ages 2-5, are obese

 Only 25.3% of Michigan adolescents are physically active
for 60 minutes per day for 7 days of the week
 14.2% of Michigan adolescents do not participate in at
least 60 minutes of physical activity on any day of the
week
 Only 31% of Michigan adolescents attend daily physical
education classes in school
 Unhealthy dietary behaviors of Michigan adolescents

68.4% at fruits or drank 100% fruit juice less than 2 times per day

Just Kidding Fitness-Mission and Goals
 Our Mission: To improve the health and nutrition of school
aged children in the Lansing, MI area
 We will achieve this mission with the following organizational
goals:




Just Kidding Fitness will assist children in learning lifestyle
behaviors to lead healthier and longer lives
Just Kidding Fitness will provide support to children who are dealing
with the stress and negative effects of being overweight and/or
unhealthy
Just Kidding Fitness will provide education on health and disease,
including age appropriate activities and behaviors, to improve
attitude, knowledge, and skills related to overall lifelong health
Just Kidding Fitness will increase fitness and nutritional education
that is age appropriate to help reduce childhood obesity
Just Kidding Fitness-Organizational Objectives
 Just Kidding Fitness will meet its mission and goals with
the following organizational objectives:





To improve student knowledge of choosemyplate.gov and
recommended daily allowances of fruit and vegetable consumption
To identify 3 community support programs which practice proper
nutrition and fitness for school aged children who are at risk for
childhood obesity by April, 2015
To define fitness activities, recommended time of activity of 60
minutes per day, and nutritional requirements for each individual
child in the program within the first month of the child entering the
program
To provide school aged children with safe methods of exercise in
their own community
To provide school aged children with the knowledge of how to live a
healthy life into adulthood

• Walking groups: pedometers
given out to kids, weekly
meetings to track progress
• Monthly fitness day: walking,
running, jump ropes, hula
hoops, jumping balloon
• Spring family fitness day:
YMCA pool and fitness fun for
everyone
Services Provided- Healthy Eating
• Meet the Dietician: Kids will learn
about healthy eating choices
• School Garden: each walking group
will plant and care for a section of
the garden, community members
can volunteer to help teach
gardening techniques
• Spring Picnic: kids will learn how to
cook with vegetables they grow and
have a healthy family picnic

 The president of the company will receive $500.00 per session
 The Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician Assistant (PA), staff registered nurse,
social worker dietician, and fitness trainer will all be volunteer positions.
Main Duties
President: Oversees daily operations and ensure all members collaborate.
NP/PA: Complete physical assessment prior to each child enrolling in the
program
Social Worker: Hold individual and group sessions to help the children and their
families adjust to incorporating fitness and healthy nutrition.
Dietitian: Will collaborate with the rest of the team to evaluate nutritional
requirements.
Staff Nurse: Assess and monitor the children through out the program and
report any concerns to the NP/PA.
Fitness Trainer: Will collaborate with the healthcare team and evaluate the
children's exercise needs.

 Printing for educational materials , handouts, and advertisements: $100.00

 Building Lease: Sheridan Elementary School Gym: Free (includes gym equipment)
Court One Athletic Club: $150.00 for two hours, discounted rate if
booked regularly (includes use of gym and equipment)
 100 Jump ropes: Donation from Dick’s Sporting Goods
 Snacks, bottled water: Weekly donation from Meijer in Dewitt Township

Just Kidding Fitness-Future Plans
 Increase the number of locations
 Lewton , Forest G. Averill, Elmwood, and Attwood Schools
 Offer classes at local gyms and fitness centers
 Increase enrollment rates
 When enrollment increases, revenue will increase, hence
allowing the company to have more paid staff
 Continue current marketing strategies and expand coverage
area to outside of Lansing.
 Provide fitness for all ages
 Expand fitness classes to middle and high school students
