Preparing for the Final Exam • Things to Bring Next Week: • Exam Book (green or blue, doesn’t matter) • A Pen (maybe a second pen for backup) • Your books: The Hunger Games and Brave New World • Optional: Your extra credit assignment—printed and stapled. • Final Exam: Tues June 3 12:30—2:30 • Begins PROMPTLY at 12:30. • DON’T BE LATE. • To prepare for the exam you are allowed to write a SHORT outline on the first page of your exam, and ONLY the first page of your exam book. • You will then write your essay beginning on the second page. Final Exam Question: Preview & Discussion This semester we have learned that a work of literature is a product of the society and time period it was created in, and it also exists in connection with other similar works. • For the final exam, you will write an essay that compares and contrasts the way the novels Brave New World and The Hunger Games deal with ONE common theme. • What are these novels trying to say about these ideas? How are these novels different in their perspective? How are they the same? • Here are some theme suggestions to discuss. • You can, of course, write about a theme that is not on this list…these are just ideas in case you need one. • control vs. freedom • individuality vs. conformity • materialism/consumerism • outsiders • love and family • socio-economic class and inequality A Few Last Words and Passing Back Essays and Other Assignments • I will see you on the day of the Final!
