Topics include standard mark-up language, Internet services, creating web pages, using search engines, file transfer programs; and database design and creation with DBMS products. Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of programming tools, deploy a web-site with markup tools, and create a simple database table. . COURSE PREREQUISITES AND/OR COREQUISITES: None COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES : Using the Web: Publishing, Syndicating, Organizing, Social Media, Linking and sharing. Creating web pages with HTML and CSS. Creating and querying a database. Combining Social Media, Web pages, and Databases. ATTENDANCE and PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Absences seriously disrupt students’ progress in a class and diminish the quality of group interaction. Students are expected to punctually attend all lecture and laboratory sessions in the courses for which they are registered. Late arrivals and/or early departures may count toward total absences in classes." “Students must be in attendance at least eighty (80%) percent of the clock hours of a course to receive credit for the course. The point is, "Let me know. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS for Online Classes: DL courses may be audited at any time; therefore, instructors MUST have documentation of first contact by students. The First Day that classes BEGIN at CFCC is considered to be The FIRST DAY of classes for ALL courses including DL courses (Internet, Telecourse, Teleweb, & Hybrid).The census date (10%) is the same for ALL face-to-face courses as well as DL courses. The census date is the point at which the state calculates FTE and thereby calculates funding to the College for enrollment. For the Summer 2015 Semester, the Census Date is [5/29/15]. You must complete the Discussion Board Enrollment Verification by that date to remain enrolled in the course. CLASSROOM and LAB RULES There is to be absolutely no food or drink around the computers. If you have food or drink left over from break, find a place in front of the room where it will not endanger any equipment. Do not “personalize” any computers and do not bring any software from outside the class to load on CFCC computers. This includes downloading software without approval. All monitors should be turned off during lectures, quizzes etc. unless instructed otherwise. It is inappropriate to be clicking away at a game or browsing the web while I am attempting to impart important crucial knowledge to students. Cell phone ringers should be off. There will be a 10-minute break each hour. You will be expected to return to class within that time. ACADEMIC HONESTY/CHEATING POLICY CFCC requires of students complete academic honesty in the completion of all assigned work. The discipline policy for academic dishonesty can be found in the current CFCC Catalog & Student Handbook. Students caught cheating may fail the assignment and/or the course. STUDENT EMAIL INFORMATION Your myCFCC account is a single username and password for all of your CFCC network accounts: email, WebAdvisor, Blackboard, campus computer access, and more. The email account provided to you (yourusername@mail.cfcc.edu) is used for all official communication with CFCC instructors and staff. Some information will ONLY be sent by email and not by postal mail, so it is very important that you check this account. This account may also be used for personal mail, but it is subject to the CFCC Acceptable Use Policy. Be sure to logout of your account in each service you may have opened (email, Blackboard, etc.) when you leave a shared computer, otherwise it is possible for the next user of the computer to access your information. TOBACCO POLICY Tobacco use is prohibited on all CFCC property. Anyone using tobacco products must do it off campus.The first offense is a warning and the second offense may result in disciplinary action. Appendix A Page 1 GRADING SCALE AND GRADE DISTRIBUTION The grading scale as delineated below is established in the catalog and cannot be modified. Distribution of assessment weights is the prerogative of the instructor. Course Grade Determination: Tests/Quizzes 40% Labs: 30% Research Paper: 10% Web Page Project: 20% Grading System: A = 92 - 100 I=Incomplete B = 84 - 91 WP=Withdraw Passing C = 76 - 83 WF=Withdraw Failing D = 68 - 75 F = 0 - 67 EXAMS Chapter tests are open book, done online through Blackboard. Test schedule will be followed as outlined in Schedule. If you miss a test day, you are expected to take the test as soon as you can when you return. Re-takes may be allowed under special circumstances, discuss with instructor. WITHDRAW POLICY CFCC has implemented a specific policy regarding proper withdrawal from a class. Withdrawal from a class must be done ASAP and before the required date identified in the CFCC catalog (typically at the 75% point of the semester). There is a special form to be completed by the student and instructor. Requests for a withdrawal after that date will only be granted for extenuating circumstances. Further policies regarding withdrawal from a class may be found in the current CFCC Catalog and student handbook. Computer Engineering Department Computer Use Policy: Use of laptops or other student computers in Computer Labs: Students may use their personal computers however no student computers will be allowed on the network. Proxy Server: We are running a proxy server on our network. This means that all information that you use to log into a site is logged and can be monitored. We will know the time, date, and web site contacted by every computer in every lab. Remember Big Brother is watching you!
