World Regions Project 600-1450 For this project your group will do a power point presentation for the assigned chapter below. Short videos may be done as well but must be accompanied by a power point. Power points must cover the assigned topics from THAT CHAPTER IN THE BOOK NOT THE INTERNET!!!!! Images from the internet can be used to enhance your power point presentation but your information needs to come from your textbook. If YOU USE A MAC MAKE SURE IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE SCHOOL COMPUTER! Presentations should be no longer than 15 minutes. ***extra credit may be earned by bringing in a regional dish for the class to sample***The best overall powerpoint for each chapter will be put on my website and receive extra credit*** Chapter 9 Christian Europe (Oct. 18th and 19 th) You must cover the following in your presentation: schisms, Byzantine Empire (loss of territory, rights of women), decline of Rome, Vikings, agriculture, serfs, rise of the knight, feudum/fief, 10th century challenges to Roman Catholic church, role of monasteries and convents, monasticism, Valdimir I, technological innovations in agriculture, Crusades, the Little Ice Age, the plague. Chapter 10 Inner and East Asia (Oct. 18h and 19th) You must cover the following: rise of Buddhism in China, Grand Canal, Tang Empire (politics, commerce and culture), Chinese maritime innovations, impact of sea trade on China, Central Asian and Islamic influences, Song Empire (technological innovations, Neo-Confucianism, footbinding) Zen Buddhism, Chinese influence in Japan. Chapter 11 Civilizations of the Americas (Oct. 22th and 23rd) You must cover the following: Teotihuacan, Quetzacoatl, human sacrifice, Mayans (organization of state, communication with gods, contributions), Toltec military state, Aztecs ( the rise of, known as, chinampas, gods, Tenochitlan, human sacrifice), Inca (domestication of animals in the Andes, mit’a, use of coca plant, Cuzco). Chapter 12 Mongol Eurasia (Oct. 22th and 23rd) You must cover the following: Mongols (advantages of rule, steppe nomads, the Khan, religion, first conquests under Genghis, military techniques, Marco Polo, results of expansion, Russian political center, Teutonic knights, Mongol influences in Europe, Mongol influence in China). Yuan dynasty (tax administration, paper money,collapse) Ming dynasty (how they rejected the Mongols, Forbidden City, reasons for lack of seafaring, porcelain,),Yi (influence of Mongols), Japan (prevention of Mongol invasion, kamikaze). Chapter 13 Tropical Africa and Asia (Oct. 24th and 25st) You must cover the following: Ibn Battuta, geography and climate of tropical zone (equator, monsoons), Islam (in Mali and Dehli, spread south of Sahara, role of mosque, spread in India, cultural achievements). Kingdoms of Mali (Timbuktu) and Ghana, Delhi Sultans in India (control of empire), Indian Ocean trade, Kilwa, trade items in Zimbabwe, the Straits of Malacca (poltical rivalry and importance of), prosperity in Asia and Africa 1200-1500 slave trade, improvements of status of women in India.
