Learning Log- Spring Term This term we would like you to complete some research into various different aspects of our learning about Ancient Greece. Please complete task one first then feel free to complete the other tasks in any order however you will be expected to share with the class what you have discovered each week. Task 1 2 3 Area of Learning The word 'labyrinth’ comes from the Greek 'labyrinthos’ and describes any maze-like structure. Design your own Labyrinth, you can draw one or you could make one. It could be made of straws, string or wood. Temperatures in Greece can be very different to those in England. Create a poster including a graph to compare the climate in Greece and England. Ancient Greeks were fascinated by prime numbers and triangular numbers. Produce a poster to explain what these are. 4 Make a name plaque written in Greek letters such as ‘Joe’s Room’ or ‘Home Sweet Home’ Be as creative as possible! http://www.greece.org/grlessons/gr-english/Gif/script.gif 5 Household objects in Ancient Greece were very different to those you might find in our homes today. Create a poster or an advert for an Ancient Greek house-hold product. 6 Greeks were very creative and artistic. They liked to create different pots and pictures using different designs. Make a mosaic using old newspaper and magazines or write a report about why mosaics were important to Ancient Greeks. 7 The first Olympic games were held in 776BC. Find out about the Ancient Olympic Games. What competitions were held? What did they win? Are any events the same in the modern Olympic games? 8 Make a travel brochure about Ancient Greece. Where would you travel to? Where would you stay? What could you do while you were there? Who would you recommend to visit? Use pictures with lots of facts and information. 9 Women at work – what did the women of Athens and Sparta do during the day? Write a diary entry of a typical day for one of these women. 10 Greek gods and goddesses played an important part in Ancient Greek life. Research a god and goddess of your choice and clearly explain what they were known for and why they were important. If you are unable to complete the home learning there will be a lunchtime club on Monday (upstairs suite at 12.15pm).
