(BUUNSA) Constitution
1. NAME
1.1. The name of the Association shall be Bond University United Nations Student
Association (BUUNSA).
2. DEFINITIONS
2.1. “General meeting” means a meeting that is not an executive meeting, with an agenda,
minutes and notice.
2.2. “Executive meeting” means a meeting only of the executive members.
2.3. “Executive members” means individuals who hold positions of office.
2.4. “Executive committee” means a committee comprised of the executive members listed at
5.1.
2.5. “University” means Bond University.
2.6. “Member” means any person on the email list for BUUNSA.
2.7. “Association” refers to BUUNSA.
3. OBJECTIVES
3.1. The objectives of the Association shall be:
3.1.1. To promote the principles of the United Nations within Bond University;
3.1.2. To foster social justice projects and humanitarian goals;
3.1.3. To promote access to and information concerning model United Nations
conferences;
3.1.4. To provide information and encourage discussion regarding the United Nations
and other related humanitarian issues.
4. MEMBERSHIP
4.1. All students of the University shall be eligible for membership of the Association.
4.2. The Association shall, where possible, be present at Club Sign-On Day or its equivalent
to provide students with an opportunity to join. If this does not occur, the Association must
establish an alternate avenue whereby students can sign up as members.
4.3. Students may also sign up for membership via email, Facebook or any other events
during the semester.
4.4. The Association must maintain a membership list.
5. OFFICE BEARERS
5.1. The Executive Committee of the Association shall include:
5.1.1. President
5.1.2. Vice-President
5.1.3. Treasurer
5.1.4. Secretary
5.1.5. Any other officers the Executive Committee may deem necessary from time to
time.
5.2. Executive Members may be dismissed from office by a vote of 75% of executive
members.
6. ELECTIONS
6.1. Only members may run for office.
6.1.1. Only executive members are entitled to vote.
6.2. Voting will be conducted when deemed necessary by the executive committee; or
whenever an Executive Member is dismissed or resigns.
6.3. Nominations for office must be received by the Secretary of the Association.
6.3.1. Nominations for office must include the name of the candidate and the position
sought.
6.4. Executive Members must be elected through simple majority voting and by secret ballot.
6.5. Voting is to be facilitated by members of the current Executive Committee not running
for re-election or any other person as determined by the Executive Committee.
6.6. Members may contact BUSA if they believe the election to be invalid or otherwise unfair.
6.7. BUSA will have authority to resolve the situation by whatever means deemed appropriate
in consultation with the current Executive Committee.
6.8. All members shall have an equal vote, except where the result is tied, in which case the
current President shall have the casting vote.
6.9. Voting may be conducted by proxy with notice and approval of the Secretary of the
Association.
6.9.1. Each member may appoint one member as a proxy in his or her place.
6.9.2. Each member may be a proxy for no more than two members.
7. DUTIES OF EXECUTIVE OFFICE
7.1. The duties of the President of the Association shall be:
7.1.1. To act as the official representative of the Association.
7.1.2. To further the objectives of the Association.
7.1.3. To chair all meetings of the Association.
7.2. The duties of the Vice-President of the Association shall be:
7.2.1 To assist the President in fulfilling his or her duties.
7.2.2. To act as the President in the President’s absence.
7.3. The duties of the Secretary of the Association shall be:
7.3.1. To record, maintain and distribute the minutes of all meetings and make them
available on request.
7.3.2. To keep and maintain records and correspondence as reasonably required for
the proper conduct of the association’s affairs.
7.3.3. To maintain a current email list of members, including all relevant contact
details.
7.3.4. To organize administrative matters of the Association.
7.4. The duties of the Treasurer of the Association shall be:
7.4.1. To keep and maintain records of receipts, deposits and payments as necessary
for the proper conduct of the Association.
7.4.2. To make provision for the prompt payment of Association debts.
7.4.3. To take responsibility for the receipt and deposit of all Association income.
7.4.4. To maintain the above records and make them available on request.
7.5. Any Executive Member may delegate his or her responsibilities to any member with the
approval of the Executive Committee.
8. MEETINGS
8.1. General meetings of the association shall be held when deemed necessary by the
executive meeting.
8.2. Executive meetings shall be held whenever deemed appropriate by the Executive
Committee.
8.3. An Annual General Meeting is to be held at least once a year.
8.4. All members shall have an equal vote at meetings
8.4.1. If the question is tied, the question is concluded in the negative.
8.5. Notice of the time, date and place of a general meeting is to be circulated to all members
prior to the meeting.
9. AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION
9.1. This constitution must be amended at a general meeting by a vote of 75% of executive
members.
9.2. Notice of a meeting referred to in 9.1 and the proposed amendment shall be circulated to
members one week in advance.
