DR students requiring accessible media go to head of list
DR can’t do it proactively; must have student with disability enrolled in the course
DR can advise faculty on how to do it themselves
Remind folks to think about how we make media accessible to all students
The Kyndle is an example of how institutions make decisions without thinking of
accessibility
Alternatives must represent “Equitable ease of use”
RFP for software should still be pursued
Who gets the RFP language
Purchasing to begin, with large dollar purchases
Another example:
Math and Stats instituted an online placement exam
Screen readers or magnification not accessible
When don’t/can’t take the placement exam, student has limited ability to enroll
through priority enrollment
Jamie will be meeting with the committee
Aleks is the company that developed the product
Committee comprised, in part, of Karen Pugliesi, ITS, math and Gateway
Larry may get jamie on agenda for ACC to discuss this issue and others
See Don Carter about universal standards; See ELC site for what is already
being done
Library media streams with captions and transcripts in Flash
Perhaps we can implement something like a Seal of Excellence for highly
accessible/universally-designed courses
Camacho, Vista efficient
Maybe simply make the accessibility checklist part of the shell
Or provide required Tutorial like FERPA or IRB training
Chris will contact Don
Fred Estrella is cognizant and responsive
Priscilla, Karen Pugliesi, Priscilla and Don had discussion on such a training
A Compliance information class
David, WE must have some tracking information
