Senior Art Exhibition
The 2009 Senior Art Majors Exhibition showcases the work of Five Wabash seniors. They are a very
talented and diverse group. While four of them are painters, all approach the canvas with very different
styles. And even the clay-throwing sculptor has a radically different take on kiln-firing his work. The four
painters are Jake Huston, Steve Mosier, Joel Patterson, and Mark Turpin. Nick Roudebush will
display over 100 pieces of his pottery, which range from small cups to bottles to urns. Read more at

From the College Archives
by Beth Swift
As classes draw to a close for the year, the Campus gears up for its
biggest event of all – Commencement. As the Loyal Sons of Wabash
prepare for the final event in their college career, the faculty and staff of
Wabash are busy preparing the rituals that signal the end of their student
days. I would like to focus on one of these rituals in this month’s article.
Pictured at right is Caleb Mills’ bell. This bell was used by Mills as the
first member of the faculty called his classes to order. The two story
unpainted, wood framed building – Forest Hall – was a humble start. Yet
the classes from that day to this have produced men who have made
lasting and meaningful contributions to our world. The list of “famous”
alums is as long as can be, but I also think that the men who go out into
the world, have quiet lives, help in their communities and live humanely
are an even more important part of the Wabash legacy.
When students come to Wabash they are brought into the community
during a chapel service. Different members of the Wabash community
speak to them about the values we cherish. The service ends with the
president “ringing them in” using Caleb Mills’ bell. They are now a part of the Wabash family.
As the last part of the commencement ceremony, their student days end with the president “ringing them
out” and this is, I think, perhaps the most moving part of the day. It is a wonderful ending and marks the
completion of a circle which encompasses their student days. They are now, well and truly, Wabash Men.
Admissions
While there's still work to be done with the Class of 2013, a few of us are looking ahead to the next
recruiting year starting with the Colleges That Change Lives Northeast Tour - May 16-21.
This year's tour stops include the greater Washington D.C. area, New York City, Boston, Rochester, and
Cleveland. Each event includes a 30-minute panel presentation followed by a 90-minute college fair
featuring the schools from the book Colleges That Change Lives. Locations and times are listed below.
The Colleges That Change Lives events provide families an opportunity to learn more about a unique
group of small colleges and universities from across the country. For some of the CTCL schools, the
college fair will be their only trip to that area this year.
If you know of any high school students (boy or girl) that live near any of these metropolitan areas,
encourage them to attend one of the fairs. Just be sure to tell the young men to start their evening at the
Wabash College table.

Refer a “Wabash Man” to Wabash
Do you know a young man who would be a great fit at Wabash? If so let us know. We’ve already started
working on the classes of 2013, 2014, etc. If you know of any young men that are Wabash material, refer
them to the Admissions Office. You can refer a student online at www.wabash.edu/alumni/student/refer.
The Wabash College Annual Fund
An investment in Wabash College is an investment in 900 young men who can change the world. Read
about the meaningful impact your Annual Fund support is having on six Wabash men and their
experiences by visiting www.wabash.edu/alumni/af.cfm.
Then take a moment to join the more than 2,900 other alumni, parents, and friends who have already
invested in providing unparalleled opportunities for Wabash men this year by making your annual gift
online at www.wabash.edu/egift.
The 2008-2009 Annual Fund fiscal year runs through June 30, 2009.
2009 Indiana Wabash License Plates
Parents and current students with vehicles registered in the State of Indiana are eligible to participate in
the Indiana Wabash College license plate program. There are new procedures for getting/renewing a
Wabash plate in 2009. Please visit www.wabash.edu/alumni/plates for more information.
Double or Triple the Value of your Annual Contribution
You might be able to double or triple the value of your gift to Wabash if you or your spouse work for a
company with a matching gift program. Use the online searchable database
(www.wabash.edu/alumni/matching) to learn about companies with matching gift programs.
