The 1920’s was a significant time which made a tremendous impact on the social, economic and political life for American Society. • Identify two changes in American society which occurred in the 1920’s and have had a significant impact on American life and for each: • Discuss the cause of this change • Describe the change • Evaluate how this change impacted (affected) American Society • For this essay select two of the changes from this increased popularity and pride in African American Culture (Harlem Renaissance), increased consumerism (buying goods and services, inventions, etc.), role of women in society (flappers, etc.), increased crime and violence (mob, prohibition, etc.), and increased discrimination (KKK, Sacco and Vanzetti, etc.). One major change that occurred in the 1920’s was the Harlem Renaissance. Before the 1920’s, African Americans mostly lived in the South. During World War I, African Americans went to work in factories up North. However, in the 1920’s things began to happen that caused a change in American society. In the 1920’s, this change was caused by African Americans settling into cities and forming close communities. In the 1920’s, African Americans wrote poetry and music, such as jazz and the blues. There were African thinkers too. This change impacted American society in a social way for the better because Africans accomplished many things.
