Eagle Rock Jr./Sr. High School Mr. Aguilar Jaguila@ERHS.la Study/Tech 7 Course Description: Study/Tech is a required year-long course for all 7th graders at Eagle Rock Jr./Sr. High. The course focuses on developing the skills necessary for design projects and self-guided study. Each class session is divided into three blocks as follow: Approaches to Learning: this portion of the class focuses on skills and attitudes for success as learners and prepares students for Junior High culmination. Time on Task: Due to the rigor of the International Baccalaureate Middle Year Program (IBMYP), students will need time everyday to work independently on schoolwork from their various classes. During this time agendas will be checked periodically so that students will be able to meet their daily goals and objectives. Students will obtain tutoring in all content areas as needed. Design Cycle: As part of the IBMYP all 7th grade students must complete 50 hours of technology training per year. Students will be working individually and in groups in order to complete their IBMYP project. The students will be assessed based on the 6 Design Cycle Criteria: Investigation, Design, Planning, Creation, Evaluation and Attitudes. Materials: On a daily basis students will be required to bring a loose-leaf binder which has labeled sections for all academic classes, including Study/Tech. In addition, they must bring homework, unfinished classwork, and/or study materials assigned in other classes to work on each day during Time on Task. Textbooks: Xeroxed copies of classroom materials will be provided for students to take home. Homework: Homework will not be assigned as part of this course unless students needed for the completion of the IB project(s). Grading Policy: Point system will be used to determine the student’s grade. Points are earned from 3 categories: Approaches to Learning, Time on Task and Design Cycle. Of course, the Final project will be part you the student’s grade. Work Habits and Cooperation: Students who have 3 or more tardies per five-week period or excessive unjustified absences will receive a U in work habits for that marking period.
