Name- Kristina Standard Grade- 3 Subject- Science Time- 3 weeks 3-LS4-3. Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. [Clarification Statement: Examples of evidence could include needs and characteristics of the organisms and habitats involved. The organisms and their habitat make up a system in which the parts depend on each other.] 3-LS4-4. Populations live in a variety of habitats, and change in those habitats affects the organisms living there. Content Plants and animals have structures and abilities that help them to survive. Each kind of living thing is adapted for survival in its environment. Adaptations study: 1.) Living things need food, air, water, and space to live and grow. 2.) An adaptation helps a living thing grow, survive, and reproduce 3.) Adaptations for getting food: Animals cannot make food, so they need to eat plants or other animals. Animals have structures that help them meet their needs: legs, wings, fins 4.) Adaptations for protection Camouflage- body patterns and colors that are hard to see. Armor (Spikes, horns, shells) Copying Poison Habitat Study: 1.) Biomes: major areas that have a similar year-round weather pattern 2.) Plants and animals in a biome are adapted to getting what they need in that biome. 3.) Biomes Coniferous Forest Rain Forest Wetland Chaparral Ocean Desert Tundra Grassland Deciduous Forest Vocabulary: Adaptation Camouflage Armor Copying Poison Essential Questions What structures help plants and animals live and grow? What are different environments where things live? How do living things survive in forests? How do living things survive in water environments? Skills Compare and contrast characteristics of each biome Determine what animals live in which biomes Classify adaptations for protection and adaptations for getting food Gather facts and data about biomes around the world Instructional Strategies Assessments Graphic organizer on adaptations/habitats Choose animal to write informational essay on adaptations Partner work: Create a physical diagram of a habitat/biome. Individual project: Create a digital diagram of your biome on Pixie.
