Diamante Poetry
• Diamante poems derive their name from the
Italian word for diamond.
• They are diamond-shaped poems with 7 lines.
• They do not have to rhyme.
• A diamante poem uses specific types of words
such as gerunds (-ing), adjectives, and nouns.
• It can be about one topic, but most commonly, it
contains two opposite topics.
Prewriting
• Start by brainstorming a topic and
then think of the opposite.
• Place the topics in your graphic
organizer.
• Then fill up the organizer using
