Diamante Poetry 4th Grade Diamante Poetry • Diamante poems derive their name from the Italian word for diamond. • They are diamond-shaped poems with 7 lines. • They do not have to rhyme. • A diamante poem uses specific types of words such as gerunds (-ing), adjectives, and nouns. • It can be about one topic, but most commonly, it contains two opposite topics. Prewriting • Start by brainstorming a topic and then think of the opposite. • Place the topics in your graphic organizer. • Then fill up the organizer using adjectives, gerunds and nouns that are all synonyms of the two topics.
