Mythology
How did Greek Myths start (why were they created)?
Greek Myths were created because people at that time needed a way to understand
how the universe was created. Greek mythology uses stories to explain how the
Earth and universe were formed. Also, it was also used as a way to guide people’s
behavior.
The role of Zeus
Zeus was the god of the sky and was the ruler of the Greek gods. He was the god
who punishes anyone who lied or broke oaths, but furthermore, he was the lord of
the weather, the god of the rain.
The role of Athena
Athena was the goddess of mercy, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill. She was
really brave, but she only fought when the state and home is being attacked.
The role of Poseidon
Poseidon was the god of the sea. His weapon is a trident, which could shake the Earth,

and break any object. His palace is located under the ocean.
The role of Hermes
Hermes is the messenger of the Olympus. He wears winged sandals and magic wand.
He is the god of thieves and commerce. He guides dead people to the underground.
About Nymphs
The nymphs are the daughters of Zeus. They live near the rivers; therefore, they are
worshiped as symbol of fertility and vegetation. They protected plants and animals.
About Sirens
Sirens are half- birdlike creatures that attract sailors by singing songs. When people
hear their songs, they wouldn’t be able to stop listening to it until they die of hunger.
About Cyclopes
The Cyclopes were gigantic monsters with one eye. When Zeus was fighting against
Cronus, he released Cyclopes. As a gift for releasing them, they gave Zeus
thunderbolt. The most famous Cyclops is Polyphemus, the one blinded by Odysseus.
About the underworld
The underworld is the place where all the dead people go. The underworld is ruled
over by Hades. When a dead soul is going to the underworld, they have to pay with
coins. Souls who cannot pay their fare, they are trapped between the two worlds.
About the Titans
KIM, YANG 3
Battle of the Titans - the race of giant Titans, imprisoned by their father Uranus
Titans were the elder gods who ruled the earth before the Olympians, the
descendent of Uranus and Gaia. Titan’s leader was Cronus, who was father of
Zeus. There were many Titans such as Cronus, Rhea and Themis.
About the Olympians
Olympians are the gods settled down at Mount Olympus. There are twelve gods and
goddesses: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena,
Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hermes and Hades.
How did the Olympians overthrow the Titans?
The Titanomachy, the Battle of the Titans
Cronus, the king of the Titans, was afraid that when his children grew up, they would
take his power away. Therefore, when his child was born, Cronus swallowed them
except for Zeus. When Zeus grew up, he released the Cyclopes and they fought
against Cronus together, and they defeated him.
