Remember that there is not school this Friday or next Monday. This Friday the teachers have an inservice day and on Monday it is mid-winter break. We will have our classroom Valentine’s Day celebration on Thursday. If your child is bringing cards or treats, be sure they include everyone. A list of the 3rd and 4th graders is on the back of this note (it really is this time! ). Some of you scheduled parent-teacher conferences for Thursday evening. I’m looking forward to meeting with you. Please notice that Bible memory and spelling tests will be on Thursday this week. Blessings on your week! Language Arts 3rd Grade: Reading: Chicken Sunday by Patricia Polacco Grammar: commas in a series Comprehension: problem solving/decision making Word skill: homophones Spelling: homophones 4th Grade: Reading: The Seminoles, a non-fiction book about some of America’s first people Grammar: the verb be Comprehension: topic/main idea Word skill: synonyms Spelling: the final sounds in place and edge Math Both groups are coming to the end of their math units. That means both groups will be ready for assessments this week. rd 3 graders have a unit review sheet to do by tomorrow. I’ll look it over and decide if they are ready for their assessment, or if there are skills that still need work. 4th graders will bring home their review tomorrow or Wednesday. They should be ready for an assessment Wednesday or Thursday. Science We’re wrapping up our unit about matter with a project this week. Watch for information about a test next week. Bible We continue our unit Forty Years in the Wilderness. Last week we learned a lot about the tabernacle and the symbolism of the parts of the building and the furnishings. This week we will learn about God’s instructions for how the Israelites were to worship Him. We’ll learn about tabernacle worship and the feasts. They kids will learn that they all point to Christ! Bible memory is Psalm 135:10-12, due this Thursday. We’re learning it in bits and pieces, but by the end of the year, we will have learned the entire Psalm. Remember to check and sign your child’s planner sheet each evening.
