Mammals:
 Have
a backbone
 Usually furry
 Have 4 legs
 Give birth to live young- nurse
 Usually look like parents- reproduce
 Example: cats and dogs
Mammals: How do they
survive in their environment?
 Camouflage:
color or shape that makes
an animal hard to see
 Mammals blend in with their environment
 They adapt to their environment
Birds:
 Have
bills, beaks, and feathers
 Have a backbone
 Have 2 legs
 Lay eggs
 Have wings
 Example: parrots, penguins, ostrich
Birds: How do they survive in
their environment?
 Many
birds are adapted to fly
 Feathers on the wings are protection
 Penguins do not fly, but swim!
 Wings can help migrate and camouflage
Amphibians:
 Have
backbone
 Have 4 legs or no legs
 Live in land and water
 Moist, slimy skin and no scales
 Lay eggs in water
 Breathe with gills and lungs
 Example: salamanders, frogs, toads
Amphibians: How do they survive in
their environment?
 Wet
skin assists frogs in water
 Toads have rough hard covering to
dig deep and avoid the heat!
 Tree frogs scare with their eyes
