Orienteering Skills Workshop at West Point's Lake Frederick.

The United States Military Academy Orienteering Team will host a weekend workshop in
order to teach the fundamentals of Orienteering. This workshop can be used by scouts to
complete tasks 1-7 of the Orienteering Merit Badge Requirements, while getting experience
on introductory and advanced level orienteering courses. Scouts will participate in various
exercises and practical applications, culminating in a troop-level orienteering competition.
This weekend is sure to be exciting for all participants. All questions and comments can be
sent to the Cadet in Charge (CIC), CDT Jett DiPalma at Jett.DiPalma@usma.edu or the Officer
in Charge (OIC), MAJ Matthew Mogensen at Matthew.Mogensen@usma.edu. We encourage
any and all questions pertaining to the weekend's activities, and will continue to update the
website with information.
Registration & Camping Costs:
Registration for troops will occur online through our designated website. This should be
accomplished no later than 8 September. We also request scout leaders to send an email as
early as possible to confirm their troops attendance and approximate numbers. This will
help us in selecting cadets that will lead the instruction. Registration fees will be collected
on Friday 11 September upon arrival as cash or check.
Registration funds will help cover the cost of the Lake Fredrick Complex, which includes a
mess hall, bathhouse, boats, beach, picnic sites and volleyball/horseshoe areas.
$25.00 per scout
$10.00 per scout leader
Camping is a separate expense. Each troop will coordinate through the USMA Orienteering
Team during registration.
Tent Sites $25 per night (Maximum occupancy: 25 people per site)
“Scout A-Frames“ $35 per night (7 A-Frames, Maximum occupancy: 15 people)
A-frame cabins contain army bunk beds, limited 110-volt receptacles inside and 30 amp RV
plug outside, outdoor grill and two picnic tables.
