Course Description
Algebra II is required for all college-bound students; however, it is strongly recommended for all students pursuing postsecondary education. In addition to expanding the mathematical concepts of Algebra I and Geometry, emphasis is placed
on preparation for study of higher mathematics, abstract thinking skills, function concepts, graphing and data analysis, and
algebraic problem solving.
Essential Outcomes
 Overview of functions
 Quadratic Equations,
 Trigonometry
Inequalities, and Functions
 Patterns
 Probability and Data Analysis
 Polynomials
 Linear Equations and
 Rational and Radical
Inequalities
Expressions and Equations.
 Matrices
 Exponential and Logarithmic
 Functions, Relations, and
Functions
Conics
Grading
 The majority of your grade will come from QC packets, quizzes, tests, and in-class assignments.
 Each assignment will be given a point value with tests and quizzes worth more points than in-class or homework
assignments.
 Homework will be assigned for each section, and questions about the homework will be answered in class.
Homework will not be collected every day, however, quiz and test questions may come from homework
problems.
Materials Needed for Class Daily:
 Algebra II text book
 A graphing calculator (TI-84 recommended)


3 ring binder with loose leaf paper or
notebook/folder for Algebra II only
Graph paper

 Extended School Services (ESS) is a free service provided for all students on a designated day after school.
Students can sign up (in advance) to work with a peer tutor to get additional help with course content, take a
“missed” quiz or exam, and/or use computers to work on an assignment.
 Mrs. Dennis is available before school and after school most days, if you are in need of one-on-one instruction.
Classroom Expectations
Be on Time
 Tardiness will be reported – students must be in the room by the time the tone stops ringing.
Be Prepared
 Be prepared by bringing all supplies needed: pencil, paper, textbook, and calculator. You will not be allowed to
leave class because you have come unprepared.
Be Responsible
 Stay caught up on assignments. If you are absent, get the assignments the day you return from a classmate,
assignment sheet, or website.
 Do your own work. A zero will be given to both parties involved in cheating.
 Use your own calculator. Sharing calculators will be considered cheating.
Be Respectful
 Use appropriate language at all times. No foul language will be tolerated.
 Bullying, name calling or teasing of a hurtful nature is not acceptable.
 Avoid asking to leave class during instruction. You will be given 3 hall passes per quarter to be used in
emergencies only. No student will be allowed to leave 10 minutes after class has started or 10 minutes before
class ends.
 Electronic devices (including all cell phones, ipods, mp3, etc.) should not be out in the classroom. If I see it, I will
turn it into the office.
 Stay in your seat until the bell rings. DO NOT STAND BY YOUR DESK OR THE DOOR AT THE END OF
CLASS.
 Listen while others are speaking.
Consequences for not meeting Expectations
Failure to meet these expectations will result in disciplinary action that is appropriate for the misbehavior. I will
follow the Greenwood high school’s Policies and Procedures and expect all students to behave accordingly.
All Algebra II students will be required to take the state mandated End of Course Assessment in May. This exam
counts as 10-20% of their overall average in Algebra II.
