Course Description:
Teaches those concepts required by mechanical engineering, machine shops and
welding industries. Students will begin with simple prints and proceed to more
advanced prints.
Overall Course Objective:
The student will demonstrate an ability to read, interpret & explain blueprints used by
mechanical engineers, machine shops & welding shops.
Text:
Interpreting Engineering Drawings, 7th Edition, by Jensen & Helsel.
Credits: 3
Transferability:
Courses with a “B” designator after the number (such as DFT 110B) are college level
courses which may apply to a WNC degree, but which may not transfer to UNR and
UNLV. In some cases, these courses may transfer to other Nevada community
colleges or to out-of-state colleges and universities.
Linkage to educational program mission and outcomes:
This course is one of the core requirements for an AAS in Drafting Technology for all
emphases. It is designed to prepare students for CADD 100.

Use the copy of the answer page provided by the instructor to record your
answers; this will be handed in to the instructor for recording. (Also write the
answers on the appropriate page in the text for your own record.)

All assignments will be due at the beginning of the next class. Homework
assignments will be reviewed at the beginning of each class time.

Grading. Grading for the course will be as follows:
70% - Assignment scores
10% - Midterm Exam
20% - Final Exam

Due Dates. If you miss a deadline, the following policy will be followed:
a. One week late
10% deduction
b. Two weeks late
20% deduction
c. Three weeks late

Attendance. Attendance to lectures is required.
a. If you miss more than three classes, you may be dropped from the
course at the instructor’s discretion. There is always much more than
just the textbook content presented in class. Questions asked by students
often provide valuable learning experiences.
b. Plan on approximately 1 hour homework time per class.
c. If you must miss a class(es), consult the syllabus for the assignments for
that day(s) and complete them. They must be handed in on the day you
return to class.

School closures. Classes missed due to school closures will be covered by a
double lecture the class meeting before or after the return to classes.
