WESTERN NEVADA COLLEGE DFT 110B – BLUEPRINT READING FOR INDUSTRY SPRING SEMESTER 2011 COURSE SYLLABUS Instructor: Jim Meyers Email: meyersj7@wnc.edu Recommended prerequisites: None Course Description: Teaches those concepts required by mechanical engineering, machine shops and welding industries. Students will begin with simple prints and proceed to more advanced prints. Overall Course Objective: The student will demonstrate an ability to read, interpret & explain blueprints used by mechanical engineers, machine shops & welding shops. Text: Interpreting Engineering Drawings, 7th Edition, by Jensen & Helsel. Credits: 3 Transferability: Courses with a “B” designator after the number (such as DFT 110B) are college level courses which may apply to a WNC degree, but which may not transfer to UNR and UNLV. In some cases, these courses may transfer to other Nevada community colleges or to out-of-state colleges and universities. Linkage to educational program mission and outcomes: This course is one of the core requirements for an AAS in Drafting Technology for all emphases.
