Activity: #1 Daily Reading Comprehension assignment: “Author’s Purpose” Pgs. 71 worksheet (refer to
text w/ direct instruction & make copies).
- Activity #2: Reading “Monster” by Walter Dean Myers. Students will read the Chapter 5 as well as take
notes during reading. [Reading Pages 153-168]
- Activity #3: SSR Journal #14 and present
Assessment: class discussion to check for understanding
Homework: Study and Prepare for Chapter 5 Assessment on Friday

instruction (printout handouts).
- Activity #3: Students will begin unit 7 on “Responding to Literature/interpreting poetry.” Students
will read poems on handout Life is Fine, I’m Nobody Who Are You, and Woman Work. Students will be
given instructions as well as time to respond to each poem in a time exercise as an introduction to
responding to poetry. (Question, Predict, Personal Connect, Summarize, Reflect) [SPLIT SHEET]
- Activity #4: Students will be assigned their “Poetry Response” assignment with specific instructions and
a handout explaining the activity.

interpretations to use in paper), rough draft, or final draft
