BACKGROUNDER
70% of registered SMEs are owned by women
(National Statistics Office, NSO)
 69% of start-ups owned by women (Global
Entrepreneurship Monitor, GEM)
 51% of businesses 1 to 3 years old are owned by
women (GEM)
 But 66% of established businesses (more than 3
years) are owned by men

BACKGROUNDER
49.7% of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are
females
 53.8% of female OFWs are between 25-34 years
old
 Only 10% of female OFWs are above 45 year old
 51% of female OFWs are unskilled
Entrepreneurship promotion will open domestic
livelihood opportunities


To encourage women entrepreneurs in the provincial
areas to grow their business via franchising
 To give women-owned enterprises are better chance at
success
 To support efforts to increase economic activity in
regional areas
 To support efforts to develop micro, small and medium
enterprises (MSMEs)
 Organized by the Philippine Franchise Association


 2nd phase: participation in Franchise Asia Philippines

government agencies and NGOs
 Graduating students with award-winning business
ideas
 Graduate students 35 years and below taking
graduate studies in business and entrepreneurship


First phase:
Conduct ‘How to Franchise Your Business’ seminar in South
Luzon, Visayas, North Mindanao and South Mindanao;
 Seminars already held in Visayas, South Luzon & South
Mindanao);
 PFA working with local chambers of commerce, the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other groups to
gather participants


Summary of Key results:
Local chambers of commerce in South Luzon consider the
project as a capacity-building activity for their constituents;
 Proponent is committed in showcasing select project
beneficiaries in its franchise show in 2015;
 Proponent surveyed the participants on their other needs
which can be addressed in future projects;
 Proponent is willing to include participants in their mentoring
program for MSMEs

