Journal Assignments:
 Journal entries must be handwritten in a single spiral notebook.
 You will write 4 separate 300-word journal entries using complete sentences. In these entries, divide your
novel into four sections and briefly describe what has taken place and your response to the events.
Vocabulary Assignment
 Find 25 words from your literary work that are unfamiliar, list, define, and include part of speech.
 Record the page number of the vocabulary word as well.
 Handwrite your vocabulary list in the same spiral notebook as the journal.
All assignments are to be turned in on August 18 the first Tuesday of the 2015-2016school year.
 The journal is worth one exam grade.
 The vocabulary is worth one homework grade.
 These grades will be recorded for the first term of the 2015-2016 academic year.

Pre AP Short Story Project
 Rewrite the ending of The Pearl beginning at the point where Coyotito dies. Begin your story at the falling
action and pick one of the “logical conclusions”; there are several that are possible. Then tie up the loose
ends of the story. The loose ends are: 1.What to do with the pearl? 2. How are Juana and Kino going to live
life now that they have lost everything?
 Length: No more than 300 words. It can be as brief as you want if you address the necessary events.
 Typed or handwritten are both acceptable forms.
 Will be graded using 6+1 Rubric
