Job profile
The primary role of a Construction Assembly Technician is to assemble and install design for manufacturing assembly elements
including precast concrete, steel, any associated formwork, falsework and propping to the required specification. An Assembly
Technician will typically be working as part of a larger team, in which they will have responsibility for some of the assembly and
installation of manufactured elements. The Assembly Technician will need to be able to interpret contract information and
specifications.
Technical Skills
Reading and interpreting from assembly drawings and specifications.
Manufactured Elements Assembling & Installing: Can understand and correctly store, handle measure, mark out, lift, pitch,
position, adjust and secure.
Manufactured Elements in conjunction with Assembly: When fabricating, erecting, maintaining, striking, timber and propriety
formwork and falsework system can demonstrate the following work skills storing, handling, measuring, marking out, lifting,
pitching, positioning, cutting, securing, finishing, adjusting and removing.
Manufactured Elements Assembling & Installing & remove manufactured elements including associated falsework and formwork:

Precast including: Elements -cladding, structural elements, flooring units.

Elements: including truss, column, beam, plate and sections including angle iron, channel, structural hollow section,
circular hollow section.
Technical Knowledge
Describe how to apply safe work practices, follow procedures, report problems and establish the authority needed to rectify them to:

Precast: Position, fix, temporary prop for example push/pull, grout.

Steel: Position and secure the elements within the design for manufacturing assembly.

Fix any temporary support and falsework.

Falsework and formwork; Construct, assembly, position, secure and remove
Off load land and move M&E module.
Common areas
Safely use and store hand tools, portable power tools and ancillary equipment.
State the needs of other occupations and how to communicate within a team when assembling manufactured elements.
Describe how to maintain the tools and equipment used when assembling manufactured elements.
Use access equipment including IPAF and upon assessment possible PASMA.
Slinger/Signaller.
Select and use appropriate hand tools, power tools and equipment.
Working at height.

Certification and Training
Apprentices will achieve one recognised NVQ qualification (Level 2 NVQ Diploma Assembly Technician) and knowledge
qualification (Level 2 Diploma Assembly Technician) derived from Industry Specific Training. There will be additional training
modules for Slinger/Signaller, IPAF, PASMA and Working at Heights to meet the requirement of competency.
English and Maths
Individual employers will set the selection criteria, but by the end of the Apprenticeship the Assembly Technician will have achieved
English and Maths at level 1 or equivalent
