JOB DESCRIPTION FINANCIAL DELEGATION: POSITION TITLE: PORTFOLIO: Science Lab Technician Academic Services REPORTS TO: ROLES REPORTING TO THIS ONE: Teacher - Science Location: STS or VEDC Nil PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: - To describe the Duties and Tasks a competent Laboratory Technician is expected to perform in the STS or VEDC laboratories. Reflecting the skill requirements of work life, this Job Description is the reference document for the development of training programs/curricula and assessment instruments (e.g. test items) that are relevant for employment. KEY CHALLENGES: Organise work Take necessary precautions for occupational health and safety. Obtain work instructions. Prepare work schedule. Request for materials, tools and equipment. Cooperate with other departments. Maintain stock of lab materials. Inform related departments about failures and problems. Ensure functionality of laboratory tools and equipment Set up the experiments apparatus and devices. Conduct visual demonstrations. Prepare the experiments for the next sessions. Perform minor repairs. Carry out material control (e.g. liquids, raw materials). Assist in preventive maintenance. Recommend new equipment and devices. Perform occupational development activities Cooperate with colleagues in working groups. Participate in meetings, seminars, etc. Conduct self-assessment of current skills and knowledge. Practice new lab techniques. Participate in professional upgrading courses (e.g. TAE40110). Study articles about profession-related trends and technological developments. Participate in equipment start-up and training. Train colleagues and subordinates. document1 KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 3 years of experience. IC3. Trained in Health and Safety. Experience as a laboratory technician.
