(and required workbooks) Tutorials: Daily, 7:40-8:00am, by appointment Course Overview In this class, the student progresses toward mastering the pronunciation and spelling of the Spanish language, toward enrichment of a workable everyday vocabulary, and toward a grasp of the grammar, both in larger basic fundamentals and in limited smaller points. Orally, the student participates in drills, answers questions, directs questions to other students, reads aloud, and perfects conversation skills. In writing, the student does exercises from the textbook and workbook, writes dictated material, answers oral and written questions, and composes paragraphs. In addition, the student is introduced to cultural information to provide a basic knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world. Grades will be based on: - tests, projects - quizzes - participation, daily in-class work - homework Conduct Grade Students who do everything that is required of them will receive a G (good) for the conduct grade. Students that receive an O (outstanding) go above and beyond what is expected. They are very supportive towards their peers and their participation contributes in making the class better. When they are absent, the class just is not the same. Students are expected to arrange their notebook using the following headings: Documentos (for documents such as the syllabus, calendars, etc.) Ejercicios de Práctica (warm-up exercises) Apuntes (notes- vocabulary and grammar notes) Trabajo (homework or classwork) Pruebas y Exámenes (quizzes and tests) Keys to Success To do well in this class, it is imperative to maintain high expectations for yourself and follow all school rules in this class. Ser Honesto /-a Do your own work with integrity and honor. Using online translators and/or other translation devices is not considered to be your own work. Using them to translate full sentences is considered dishonest. Ser Respetuoso /-a Act with tolerance, courtesy, and thoughtful regard for all persons, property, and the environment. Although the Spanish culture may be different from yours, be respectful, tolerant, and keep an open mind. You are expected to participate fully and cooperate while in class. Ser Responsible Arrive on time. Use class time for Spanish work only. Bring all materials (including completed homework) to class everyday. Take accountability for your actions. Let the teacher know early when you need additional help or explanations. Come to tutorials often (not just the day of a quiz or exam). Ser Amable Be caring and compassionate towards others. Late Work Homework is accepted up to 1 day late with a 30 point deduction. It will be a zero after that. Major projects will have a 20 point deduction for every day late. Make-up Work While you are out Check the homework assignment and calendar on the portal (or hardcopy of calendar) If the assignment is not yet posted online, you may e-mail the teacher. get work in advance When you return Check the hanging files on the board for missed notes and handouts. The top folder will have a calendar with what we did while you were gone. Check the “Práctica Diaria” binder on the back table as you enter the room. This will have the warm-ups for each day. You are responsible for warm-ups from the days you miss! You may be quizzed on them. Turn in completed work that was due the day that you were absent. Make arrangements with the teacher to take any missed tests or quizzes. You are responsible of completing and turning in ON TIME all make-up work to the teacher.
