All absences NEED to be accounted for either with a medical certificate, note, phone call, email or a message on the attendance hotline from parents. Students who miss unit 3&4 SAC due to illness MUST produce a medical certificate. S or N result system At year 11 students need to meet the required outcomes for each subject unit in order to obtain an S. Each unit consists of 2-4 outcomes and these are made up of key knowledge and skills that students must demonstrate to achieve an S. In year 11 students complete units 1 in semester one and unit 2 in semester two. In year 11 it is possible to make subject changes at the end of a semester. However and students completing units 3 & 4 are unable to make changes mid year. Redemption classes At VCE level students who do not pass assessment tasks are required to sit a redemption class on a Wednesday afterschool. Because students have to complete EVERY outcome in VCE redemptions are necessary so that students have a second chance to demonstrate their understanding of the content. If a student misses an assessment task due to illness they need to produce a medical certificate or written note from home. In a unit 3&4 class medical certificates are essential. Study days In year 11 students have the privilege of study days, these are every second Wednesday. On a study day students have the option of either staying home or working in the study centre. The day is designed to help students adjust to the VCE workload and consolidate their knowledge. Students who are in VET programs are still expected to attend their classes every Wednesday. Exams Year 11 students have exams once a semester these are held in June and November. The exams are assessed internally and are practice for the year 12 exams. Although the exams do not contribute to the S/N result they assist students to practice their revision and exam preparation techniques and relieve the stress of exams come year 12. Head start program At the end of the year students will participate in a week of year 12 classes as an introduction to year 12 for 2017. The program will give students a head start over the summer break allowing them to start the year 12 studies and initiate their study regimes. Textbooks and resources At a senior level students are required to pay a textbook levy. This amount varies depending if students are VCE or VCAL. Because of the large amount of books required at VCE students pay the levy then they can borrow the textbooks they require from the library. Alongside these textbooks there are subject specific equipment required such as a CAS calculator for General Maths and student workbooks for Biology, as well as stationary. All requirements will be given to students on the stationary list at the end of year 10.
