Ask questions about each page-characters, setting, what is happening to ensure understanding. Focus on Vocabulary Use flashcards and visuals to introduce and discuss vocabulary. Use teacher created KeyNote and BitsBoard to ensure understanding. Have Focus on Spelling/Phonics Write spelling words on board. Ask students to state spelling pattern. Have students come up with other words that could go with the spelling Focus on Writing Students will write on given topic: Write about Cedartown using each day of the week (On Monday… etc.). Students will use writing checklist to Focus on Fluency Students will be given a new passage to read (cold read). Teacher will assess fluency rate for each individual student. Students will be paired together to review story. Have students complete graphic organizer about story elements at end of reading. students use vocabulary journals to draw picture and write sentence to go with each new vocabulary word. (brown, city, hello, loudly, love, pulled) pattern. Students will complete word sorting activity for long Oo sound. Review ways to spell long Oo sound (spelling patterns). make sure they have included everything needed in their writing. rate will be reassessed if needed to determine increase in fluency rate. Goal: 50 words per minute Assessment/ Evaluation Students will answer questions about given text to show understanding of story elements. Have students use vocabulary word in a sentence correctly. Have students read real and nonsense words using spelling pattern for the week. Read passage and assess fluency rate. Have students practice passage in pairs and reassess as needed.
