VOLUME XXXXXII ISSUE 5 PASTOR’S PEN BY Pastor Steve The Great 50 days of Easter conclude on Pentecost which is May 24 this year. Pentecost also marks the beginning of what is sometimes referred to as the “time of the church.” And with good reason. Think about the Pentecost story from Acts 2. The Holy Spirit empowers the disciples to speak about Jesus in languages they knew nothing about. But people who did know those languages heard clearly the disciples’ message about Jesus. As a result, about 3,000 people were baptized. This is why Pentecost is often said to be the birthday of the church. Well this year on Pentecost, come to church ready to celebrate. Be sure to wear red and come an hour earlier as May 24 is Memorial Day weekend and begins the summer worship time of 9:30 am. Two weeks prior, May 10, is the great festival of Mother’s Day (just kidding). If your mother is still around be sure to tell her how important she is to you. If your mother has passed on, may God bless your memories of her. And for those of you who are mothers, may you always be a blessing to your children.
