FARMING
• The cost to plant crops is all the same.
• You can grow up to 160 acres of crops (16 items). You may
plant on all the land , or only part of it.
• You will buy your crops from the Market.
SELLING CROPS
• They may sell for different prices depending on the market.
• You will learn what your investment return is after you turn
in your crops to the market.
RAISING
• You may decide to raise livestock.
• You only need to pay for the cost of feed.
• You do not need to reserve farm land for livestock.
• At this time, public land could be used for this purpose.
SELLING LIVESTOCK
• They may sell for different prices depending on the market.
• You will learn what your investment return is after you turn in your
crops to the market.

• Purchase crops ($50) and livestock ($5) from the market.
• You must also pay your $500 in fees.
OUTCOMES
A serious lack of early spring rain in July almost
destroyed the rye, and oat crop. The prices paid
for corn, potatoes, and tobacco are up. The
price for sheep is up and the price paid for pigs
is at an all time high.

PLANTING CROPS/RAISING LIVESTOCK
• You may purchase more crops or animals if you have space.
• You must also pay your $500 in fees.
OUTCOMES
This was a very cold winter and it destroyed most
of the cattle and pigs.(This means you have no
more cattle or pigs on your farm) Sheep prices
are high. Abundant spring and summer rain
throughout most of the state has produced
excellent crops. The price of corn, wheat, rye, and
oats is good and the price of tobacco and
cranberries remains the same. The field hay prices
are small because of limited demand for hay.

PLANTING CROPS/RAISING LIVESTOCK
• Purchase your crops and livestock.
• You must also pay your $500 in fees.
OUTCOMES
Growing wheat year after year in the same spot
decreased the richness of the soil. When it came
time to harvest there was little wheat to cut. The
rest of the crops did the same as last year. Cattle
prices are very good, Sheep prices are down but
pig prices are good.

PLANTING CROPS/RAISING LIVESTOCK
• Purchase crops and livestock.
• You must also pay your $500 in fees.
OUTCOMES
Small black and white insects with red legs, called
chinch bugs, found their way to Wisconsin. They
killed a lot of wheat plants before they could be
harvested. Oat, hay and corn did well this year.
Cranberries and potatoes did better. You are now
making more of a profit off our your cows and
sheep for their milk and wool.

PLANTING CROPS/RAISING LIVESTOCK
• Purchase Crops and Livestock
• You must also pay your $500 in fees.
OUTCOMES
Growing of wheat has become less successful in
the past years. Cranberries and potatoes are now
cash crops. Corn, hay and oats are doing well.
Cattle and sheep are doing the same as last year
but there has been a rise in the value of pigs.

PLANTING CROPS/RAISING LIVESTOCK
• Purchase crops and livestock
• You must also pay your $500 in fees.
OUTCOMES
It was a harsh winter with a late coming spring.
Your crops survived but are not as large of a
harvest which means you couldn’t sell as much of it
since you need to keep some for your own family.
Cows have increased due to the upcoming
popularity of using cows for dairy.

1. How much money did your “family” make? Did
your “family” make a lot of money?
2. Did your family have a diversified farm? If so
why was it diversified, if no then why wasn’t it?
3. Did your “family” make as much as you had
hoped?
4. REMEMBER – you still have to pay back your
$2000 loan. Did you make a profit?
