China's 'Iron Man’ An Undying Legend
"The 'iron man' shall never be forgotten," Tan said. "He
sacrificed all he had for China.” No Tan Wei is not referring
to the Iron Man we know as the movie or the song by Black
Sabbath. She is referring to Wang Jinxi, an oil driller for
China’s largest oil field in Daqing. He died almost 39 years
ago but was recently voted as one of the most 100 notable
people in New China’s history by the people. China
Comment, a leading magazine in China, voted Wang as one
of the Top 10 Most Influential Figures in January of 2009.
Wang worked for the No. 1205 Drilling Team and was a role
model for all. He had a positive attitude and worked hard
despite lack of technology. Most of the work was done by
sweaty hands over and over, every day. At the age of 47
Wang Jinxi died of stomach cancer in 1970.

China Issues Regulation to Curb Marine Pollution By
Ships
China’s state council issued a new regulation in order to prevent marine
pollution caused by ships and hopefully find remedies for this
pollution. This new regulation includes 9 sections and 78 rules. It also
requires emergency plans to be mapped out and approved by The
Cabinet. “Official statistics say 733 ship pollution accidents occurred
between 1998 to 2008 in sea areas in China's jurisdiction, which led to
huge economic and environmental losses. The regulations will apply to
every type of shipping, except military.” This new regulation will take
effect on March 1, 2009.

Misconceptions About China
Here are a few misconceptions about China…
•
All Chinese are Kung Fu experts
“The idea that all Chinese are all Kung Fu experts is an outmoded racial stereotype dredged up from the
minds of silly foreigners who've watched one-too-many Jackie Chan movies. Indeed, many Chinese don't
even study Kung Fu. They prefer Taekwondo.”
•
There are no homosexuals in China
“Not true, there are a many homosexuals in China...... but they're all foreigners..... honest.”
•
Chinese Eat Dog
“Er..... Okaaaay......this one is actually true, but there are still some misconceptions that need
correcting.”
