Mission:
Using an asset-based community development model, the local planning team forges relationships and
works to engage residents, service providers, places of worship, institutions and government in working
together to decrease barriers and increase opportunities that enhance the quality of life for people living
and working in the South Sherman neighbourhood.
Vision:
The South Sherman Neighbourhood is a great place to live, work and raise children.

Next Dinner on Wednesday November 30th Doors Open at 5:30 Dinner served at 6pm
Starting November, Dinner will cost $2.00 a plate to offset cost

5. Sub-Committees Reports
5a) Block Champion – Sara Bokma
ACTION: Meeting on October 13th to define the role of block champion and share ideas.
ACTION: Obtain SSArea Map to visualize target areas, like a political campaign.
5b) Health in the Hubs - Steve Rolfe
On November 11th a report of Phase 1 will be distributed and South Sherman will receive five copies.
Research focuses on Beautification:
a) waste management b) graffetti c) green spaces and d) PanAM Games Prep
ACTION: Meeting Dec 5th @ St. Giles focus on Health in the Hubs Phase 2, presented by McMaster
University Students: Vivian, Janet, Alex and Anne Marie and Community Liaisons; Celeste Licorish
and Steve Calverley.
ACTION: Book Gym
ACTION: Promotion of event as discussed
5c) Logo / Marketing Committee – Carrey Slotuik
ACTION: Meet to Brainstorm and design logo. Present ideas at next meeting or in the new year.
5d) Property Angels - Celeste Licorish
ACTION: Greg asked Celeste to provide a written proposal for using the church’s snow blower
for neighbourhood snow removal.
5e) School Retention Committee - Steve Calverley
Next Public ARC meeting is on November 15th HWDSB office at 6pm

6. Pesentations – Scheduled Items
6a) Solid Waste Management Master Plan - City of Hamilton
The City of Hamilton is in the process of conducting a review of its Solid Waste Management
Master Plan. The Review will very soon be at the stage where the City’s alternative future
directions for waste management are drafted and available for discussion with the community.
They have expressed an interest to meet with our group to present the alternative waste
management scenarios and obtain our group’s feedback. If you would like more information
about the City’s Solid Waste Management Master Plan process and the work that has been
completed to date, please visit www.hamiltonwastereview.ca. In addition to this, a document
presenting the directions and scenarios will be available on November 4th, 2011.
They anticipate that the presentation and discussion would take approximately 45 to 50 minutes.
ACTION: We need to decide as a group if this is something our group would be interested in
and if so, Are we interested in having a separate meeting for the Waste Management for a
Presentation.
