Susanne from Banyan Community Services, informs the group that there are Art Students available to develop and create Logo New students starting WHEN? Terms of Reference (5 mins) Members of Subcommittee are Carrey, Susanne, David, and (absent Sam Falzone) Susanne O’Grady reported that we worked on the Terms of Reference almost to completion. Sub-committee needs one more meeting. . ACTION: Schedule Next Meeting 2. Financial Report – Dan Peace Dan Presents Report 3. Hamilton Community Foundation – Sharon Charters & Matt Goodman (30 mins) Role of the Community Worker Information will be provided by HCF in writing. Sharon Charters from the Hamilton Community Foundation. Tackling Poverty Together – eight local planning teams have emerged over the last eight years, building assets, capacity and leadership. Meeting with LPT to discuss that the HCF feels that it may be time to move to next phase. Matt Goodman: Tackling Poverty Together (TPT2) Board of Directors investing into community. Extending funds for an additional six months to the end of December 2011 for existing programs. Look at extending Projects Funding for existing Community Partners like Elizabeth Fry and programs in partnership Boys & Girls Club. Paul Johnson, Director of Community Strategies, City of Hamilton Duane Dahl - Boys and Girls Club asked if Paul Johnson could attend this LPT to hear from us. Timelines Paul’s Work Comprehensive Neighbourhood Plan, all different aspects of Community ie; transportation, businesses and residential. Matt Goodman Response: 2 South Sherman Hub, Neighbourhood Planning Team A. Coordinated Community Development Leaders. Create Best Practices and put into place. Addressing Community Policy issues. B. Professional Development for Community Development Leaders AND Residents who may benefit from training and refine skills ie: taking minutes and problem solving. Thereby developing excellence in leaders of the community planning teams. Sharon Charters remarks on the momentum of LPT is due to community involvement and commitment and creating awareness and involvement with city councilors. ACTION: Invite Paul Johnson to attend South Sherman ACTION: Subcommittee to Plan to continue follow-up on Imagine Session. Those who expressed interest in being on this subcommittee are: Duane Dahl - Boys and Girls Club, Suzanne, David, Carrey, Sandy. Ask anyone else who attended the Imagine Session if they would be interested in participating in follow up. Dan Peace mentioned that the roots of the HUBS stemmed from a group Courage to Change, Paul Johnson was a part of this group. 4. Health in the Hubs Steven & Carrey (10 mins) RECAP same as LAST MEETING: Steven recaps the background to Nurse practitioner proposal - wasn’t accepted so a local group Public Health, McMaster and the 3 Hubs got together to respond to health and wellness and put together a plan, and posted a position for the 3 Hubs. Three coordinators were chosen, the SSH rep is Carrey Slotiuk. Dyane and Steven met with the 12 nursing students who will be helping with the task. A number of other calls for proposals have come forwards. First phase to get an idea of the broad determinants of health in the neighbourhood - to be done by end of April 2011. Add three Questions from survey into ACTION: Project would like to draw on any past work already gathered, Please forward to Carrey Slotuik. ACTION: Call for additional volunteers to help with door to door survey and request for any opportunity to present to a group. C.O.R.E – Community Organizations Reaching Everyone Arts in the Hubs Program– Jenna DiNardo (10 mins) Program Material and Leaflet was handed in to Recording Secretary. Held at the old St. Helen’s school in McQuesten neighbourhood. Visual Art Students earning academic credits to complete GED. Programs include Visual Art, Photography, Dance, Music, Writing and Media. Program is for all interested youth ages 14 to 25 years of age. Dynamic Programs offer influential programs and opportunities such as: Building Life Skills Confidence Boosting Actives Exercise / Movement Making New Friends Becoming Part of a Team Fostering a Positive Attitude about selecting a career path Contributing to community Life Getting Coached by Health and Educational Professional Jenna showcases the group CORE’s logo (Puzzle) that demonstrates their desire to be interconnected within the community, acting as partners and referring participants to other services in community. Emergency Food is given out: Food Bank and Hot Meals Community Food Security Continuum Group Discussion: Carrey: Proposed that we start having the Good Food Basket in our HUB. Leslie: Community Kitchen could use the food from the Good Food Basket and teach people how to prepare the items in the Basket. Portuguese Support Services – Jacinta Ribiero (5 mins) 2 Flyers handed in to Recording Secretary. Jacinta works with children with physical disabilities and a Seniors Program concerning Physical Health, Mental Health and nutrition. Invitation to Open House for information about the programs for seniors and special needs adults. HARRRP and St. Peters Community Centre– (10 mins) Handout: Schedule of different Programs. Sue-Ann Ward from HARRRP at St. Peters Community Centre reports they are having a Beach Party Feb. 18th to get everyone familiar with the organization. Community Kitchen reported by Catherine Hughes Numbers were down from last month due to poor weather. There was a lot of delicious food and there was enough food leftover for everyone to take a care package home with them.
