News That Is Great From Room 128 April 4, 2014 In the week ahead: Friday- Bring back your library book! Spelling Test! Report cards and Portfolios Please look in the blue folder for your child’s report card and your child’s portfolio. By Friday, April 11th please return: The blue folder WITH the papers in it. The signed yellow card. The report card envelope unsealed. Special Friends Day- April 15th , 10:00-10:30, in our classroom! You received a purple flyer about Special Friend/Grandparent Day on April 15th. There is a RSVP included in the flyer. Please fill it out so I know how many chairs to plan on for that day. If you have misplaced it please write me a note. The children will sing and read to their friend and we will demonstrate some things we do on the Smart Board. If grandparents are not available to come or another friend parents are welcome. Language Arts This week our stories in our reading book were about inventors. We read about Thomas Edison and the Wright Brothers. We also read about a man who invented different types of robots. We wrote facts about the Wright Brothers. We wrote why we are famous! We drew a picture of our own invention! We practiced reading and writing words with the long vowel sounds. Math We worked on reviewing telling time and counting money. We practiced using many strategies to solve math problems. We worked on memorizing math facts. Social Studies Our vocabulary words are culture and immigrant. We have been talking about how people in other cultures eat different food, wear different clothes, have special dances, may have different homes. We have talked about what an immigrant is. We have talked about how we can learn about different cultures through Folktales. Check out this website we did in Social Studies about different cultures! We have discussed how important it is to brush your teeth two times a day and floss your teeth once a day. Plan Ahead- Please mark your calendar! Friday, June 6th First Grade will be having our end of the year celebration with a program about Washington DC.
