Getting to the Dormitory The address of the dormitory is Studencheskaya street, 33/1. The easiest and cheapest way to reach the dorm from the airport involves taking a train and then the metro. The total cost of the journey is about 13 dollars: 1. First, take the aeroexpress train from the airport. You can buy a ticket at the airport or in advance – for more information, visit http://www.aeroexpress.ru/en. There are three main airports – Domodedovo, Sheremetevo and Vnukovo – all of them are served by Aeroexpress 2. The next step is the Moscow Subway Entry point Destination Depending on your airport you will arrive at one of three railway stations – Kievskiy vokzal, Pavelezkiy vokzal, Belorusskiy vokzal. To find a metro you could ask «Как мне пройти в метро?/How can I reach the subway?». The logo of the subway is a large red letter “M”. You will find ticket desks just inside the entrance to the metro, where you can buy a ticket (28 Rubles per trip, valid for 3 days) 3. Inside the subway there are clear navigation boards with the names of stations and how to change to different lines. They look like this You need to go to Studencheskaya/Студенческая station, which is on the Filevskaya line/Филевская (navy blue) 4. When you are on the Filevskaya line, be careful, because the line has two different branches. You should take the “Kuntsevskaya/Кунцевская” line (not “International”/Международная). There’s a board on the platform giving you information about the next train: 5. Take the train and after a few minutes you will get to Studencheskaya station. 6. The dorm is very close to the metro station. Go out from the metro, turn left, and then turn right through the second arch. The walk from the metro to the dorm takes approximately 5 minutes. Access to the internet (LAN, Wi-Fi) Free laundry facilities (Laundry rooms are open 24/7 Bedding Shower rooms (two on each floor) Small gym Rooms for self-study Kitchen (two on each floor) You can check into your room as soon as you arrive in Moscow (please, go directly from the airport to the Dormitory, show your passport at the entrance and you will be given access to your room). Checklist for New International Students 1. Accommodation at the Dormitory – start from January, 9th, 2013 Upon arrival you’ll need to do the following: show your passport at the entrance to the Security (Tel. 8 495 623 64 38) Don’t forget that you need to bring a health certificate with you. You won’t be allowed to check in to the dormitory without it. Please see the appendix below for more details sign your Dormitory Housing Tenant Agreement with Lilia Konstantinovna (room 131) then provide the following documents to Lilia Konstantinovna (room 131): - your signed Dormitory Housing Tenancy Agreement and Rules of the Dormitory - your passport, visa and migration card for copy - a copy of your medical insurance - your health certificate - two passport style photos 3x4 size pay for accomondation: 4800 rubles per month (or 160 rubles per day) (please pay at Orgbank, the address is Myasnitskaya st., 20) - payment forms ( Бланк извещения на оплату общежития для коммерческих студентов) can be found here: http://www.hse.ru/education/charge or at the bank. Please ask if you need help with this. - hand in the receipt to Lilia Konstantinovna - further rent payments should be made via the bank and the reciept handed in to Lilia Konstantinovna no later than the 1st of each month 2. The Mandatory Orientation Session is scheduled for January 11th and 14th, 2013 10.00 meet at the Dormitory hall with HSE students (Studencheskaya street, 33/1) 11.00 visit Orgbank and pay the dormitory rent (Myasnitskaya, 22) 11.30 visit the main HSE building (Myasnitskaya street, 20) 14.00 visit the International Students Office (Pokrovsky boulevard, 8, room 209). Please, bring the following: - passport, visa, migration card - 1 photo 3x4 size on matte paper 3. Migration registration (by HSE visas and registration Office) It is important to register you at the Migration Authorities within a week of your arrival, please provide us with a copy of your passport, visa, and migration card the next day after your arrival. Every new migration card must be registered. There are two ways: 1. Ask Lilia Konstantinovna to send your scanned documents to Tamara Elshina. 2. Visit Tamara Elshina (Myasnitskaya st., 20, room 533). Within a few days, your registration will be ready and you will need to collect it from room 533, Myasnitskaya st., 20. You should always keep your registration document with your passport. We must register you every time you get a new migration card. Otherwise, you will be fined (2000-5000 rubles) or could even be deported by the Migration Authorities. Visa prolongation According to Russian law, initially you are given a single entry study visa for 3 months. After your arrival it will be prolonged and extended to a multiple-entry visa for the entire period of your studies. Apply to Tamara Elshina, room 533, with the following documents: - 3 photo 3x4 size on matte paper - Passport, visa and migration card for copying - a receipt from the bank for payment of 1000 rubles (migration fee for visa prolongation) – please see the appendix below for the form of the receipt 4 How to apply for the courses and fill out your Individual Study Plan. 1. Either print out your Individual study plan or collect it from the International Office 2. Choose a minimum of four courses at any faculty you like. Check the schedule of your chosen courses with your tutor. Be aware that courses from different faculties could be held in different buildings! 3. Consult the International Students Advisor in order to complete your personal schedule based on your chosen courses and complete the form. A mandatory orientation session is organized several days before the semester starts. 4. Visit the Study Department (Учебная часть) and register for the courses. Every chosen course should be signed by the relevant person from the from the contact list. Keep transcripts with you. 5. Attend the course, meet the lecturer and inform him or her that you are an international student and would like to attend the course. 6. Hand in the completed form to the International Students Office (room 205, Pokrovsky boulevard, 8) by January 25th, 2013. To pass the exams and have an official record of your final grades you must attend your chosen courses regularly. 5. Transport During your stay the quickest way to travel around the city is to use the metro. You will need to use it when going from the dormitory to the campus. There are no limits (time or zones) on the Moscow underground.
