Assignments Stamped/Initialed for Credit - (blank= no stamp/no credit)
 All work MUST be done in your own handwriting and found in your binder. All homework for the unit is collected on the test day. So
students need to keep homework organized until the end of the unit. Homework is stamped for completion the day it is due. Full points are
earned for a stamp and correct answers on the day of the test. If stamp sheet is lost, papers should be kept with the stamps on them and I
can retrace and re-stamp the stamp sheet, but 5 points will be deducted upon completion for no being organized. All assignments must be
turned in on time! However, all assignments will be accepted late with the following point reductions:

1st day late = 25% off grade

2nd day late = 50% off grade

3rd day and beyond = no credit

AP Environmental Science U n i t 2 : Ecosystems, Energy Flow and Natural
Biogeochemical Cycles
What students will be able to apply by the end of this course?
Students use scientific processes: questioning, planning and conducting investigations, using appropriate tools
and techniques to gather data, thinking critically and logically about relationships between evidence and
explanations, and communicating results.
What students will be able to do by the end of this unit according to State Standards?
Learning Goals:
The students will be able to understand how to identify, categorize, and organize substances.

In addition to Level 3, the student can make connections to real-world applications and
content in other AP Environmental Science units.
Student can correctly: (Insert state/district course objectives for strand being taught)
 Describe substances based on their physical properties.
 Describe substances based on their chemical properties.
 Predict properties of elements and compounds using trends of the periodic
table (e.g., metals, non-metals, bonding – ionic/covalent).
 Describe the following features and components of the atom:
o protons
o neutrons
o electrons
o mass
o organization
o structure
o number and type of particles
The Student can correctly complete most of Level 3.
The student can correctly complete Level 3 only with guidance.
The student is unable to complete Level 3, even with guidance.
Learning Strategies:
 Pay attention
 Be Active
 Take notes (written & pics,
organize & summarize)
 Ask questions
 Be part of discussion
 Repeat info to self in own
words
 Try to understand, not
memorize
Studying Strategies:
 Study your notes/wksts you did in
class that day for 15-30 mins. each
afternoon/evening (no cramming)
 Reread warm- ups, notes, wksts, etc
 Study guides (flashcards, questions,
picture summaries)
 Study buddy
 Have a good studying environment (&
change locations often)

Testing Strategies:
 Be prepared (sleep, eat & stay
hydrated)
 Relax (breathe)
 Focus
 Cover answers, read question,
answer in head, find answer
 Use info provided in test
 Process of elimination
 Skip hard questions, but write a
reminder (?)
 Double check your work
