Primary Function The Erb Institute Student Affairs Manager will be responsible for managing academic, extra-curricular, and professional development activities throughout the life cycle of students. The Erb Student Affairs Manager will play a lead role in the marketing and recruiting for the MBA/MS dual degree program, including the management of recruitment scholarships, and will work closely and collaboratively with both Michigan Ross and the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE). The position will work with prospective and current students to plan their programs of study, conduct professional development and job search activities, support student social and extracurricular activities, and will administer various financial award processes. This position will also support Institute alumni with ongoing professional and career development assistance and continuing engagement with the Institute's programs. This position reports to the Managing Director of the Erb Institute. Responsibilities Applicant Marketing, Recruiting and Advising Assist in the development and implementation of marketing, communication, scholarship and other strategies to attract the best candidates to apply and enroll in the Erb MBA/MS dual degree program. Conduct analyses of best practices for dual degree marketing and admissions and assess effectiveness of various strategies and ideas. Track program, scholarship, and enrollment trends at competing programs to assure ongoing competitiveness of Erb dual degree program. Develop and deliver Erb program presentations to prospective students and other stakeholders on and off campus. Manage the Erb admissions process by responding to inquiries, advising applicants, and engaging student ambassadors. Review admissions targets and criteria and work in close consultation with Ross and SNRE admissions offices to achieve objectives. Analyze and report on admissions metrics and trends. Recommend and implement improvements to dual degree program applicant intake and evaluation processes. Stay in close contact with applicants to ensure high yield of strongest candidates. Advise admitted students on dual-school enrollment procedures and other pre-matriculation needs. Respond to inquiries from other University staff, prospective students, current students, faculty, alumni, and other groups on issues relating to Erb dual degree program. Student Academic, Extracurricular and Professional Support Advise Erb students on curriculum and other program design choices and procedures to support their academic and professional development goals. Advise students on development of master's projects and provide referral to advisors and sponsors. Track masters project participation and completion rates. Identify best practices for master's project sourcing, advising, completion, impact, and student-career value and recommend program adaptations to achieve Institute organizational objectives for projects. Design and deliver professional development programs for students including coaching training and self-assessment activities. Liaise closely with career office staff in Ross and SNRE. Advise students on career and internship planning and search. Provide network referrals. Oversee the design, planning and execution of MBA/MS program events by preparing agendas and materials, recruiting and preparing speakers, overseeing logistical details, and attending/hosting. Work closely with Erb, Ross and SNRE event staff and student leaders. Develop and implement strategies to attract targeted employers, industries or functions to provide job, internship and project opportunities to Erb students. Analyze outcomes and recommend best practices for MBA/MS professional development and job/internship placement. Understand evolving student topical interests and recommend changes in program content and design to directors. Analyze and report key academic performance metrics including enrollment in Institute courses and seminars, master's project participation and completion, and early graduations. Scholarship and Award Management Design and administer the recruitment scholarships process in support of recruitment objectives. Manage various financial award programs that recognize student achievements or encourage targeted areas of study or activity. Alumni Relationship Management Design and implement alumni communication and engagement strategy to achieve program development, student support, and fundraising objectives. Plan and implement alumni direct engagement opportunities including reunions and local alumni gatherings. Support ongoing alumni career development and networking needs. Administrative/Financial Management Assist in preparing budgets for MBA/MS program marketing and recruiting, scholarships and awards, student life and other education-program activities. Ensure that program costs remain within projected budget guidelines and execute events within budget. Monitor expenses, and prepare reports on activity costs. Provide daily work direction to staff working on event planning, communications, data management, scholarship, and award administration. Required Qualifications* • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three or more years of program coordinator or project management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. • Ability to work with corporate sponsors and to serve as a representative of the Erb Institute and the University of Michigan. • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships and effective channels of communication at multiple levels and with diverse groups inside and outside the organization. • Ability to make effective presentations to prospective students, employers and other constituents. • Some experience in strategic planning and execution. • Proven track record in fiscal management and in preparing and monitoring budgets and reconciling expenses. • Must have successful experience in a professional team-oriented environment with commitment to customer service. • Demonstrated ability in independent decision making and problem identification and resolution with excellent analytical skills is essential. • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, diplomacy, and discretion are essential. • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects with tight deadlines and consistently meet deadlines with expected quality is essential. • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database applications, i.e. PeopleSoft (or comparable system). • Moderate domestic travel is required (estimated to be about four trips per year). • Will require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends as necessary to support events or student meetings. Desired Qualifications* Experience with working with students including provide support and counseling is strongly preferred. MBA degree is preferred. MBA/MS alumnus/alumna of the Erb Institute is desired. Experience in one or more of the following areas are strongly preferred: admissions, career development and placement, or student counseling.
