PhD Student Research Grants (Research Internships and Projects) The Erb Institute has competitive funding for research support available for its PhD students (i.e., students whose dissertation advisor is an Erb faculty member or Faculty Affiliate) on a rolling basis. Grants are available as long as funds last each fiscal year. This funding has been set aside to subsidize expenses associated with conducting research that follows from the Erb Institute’s research foci. This funding can be used for research-based projects,, travel to present research findings at academic conferences, or to support dissemination of research findings to the non-academic world. A complete list of anticipated expenditures, along with a list of the scope of the research activities and benefit of the research must be provided. A detailed budget along with a full list of pending and received funding from other sources is required. This funding is available to students once at the Pre-candidate level and not more than two times at the Candidate level. Each grant award will have a maximum of $2000 at the Pre-candidate level and $3000 at the Candidate level. Each grantee will be required to acknowledge the support of ‘the Frederick A. and Barbara M. Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan’ on any publication or presentation that results from the research that was made possible by this grant. Each grantee will have to provide documentation of the research conducted and a presentation to the Erb community demonstrating that the grant was used for the purposes stated in the grant application. Grant applications are to be submitted to the Managing Director of the Erb Institute by email at erbinstitute@umich.edu. A committee consisting of the Directors of the Erb Institute will make award decisions. Students should actively seek funding support from other sources (Rackham, Home department, etc.) but not solicit any Director of the Erb Institute to provide additional funding beyond the support from the grant described herein. This does not affect support in the form of GSI, GSRA or other general fund support.
